Ripped music pauses or stops during playback

Hello,
I just installed a Samsung 870 EVo SSD 250 GB into my RS151. The SSD was formatted after installation. I ripped about 5 CDs using an outbound Asus CD drive with its own power supply. I allowed the RS151 to find the appropriate metadata for each CD before ripping them as FLAC files. When I play some of the albums some of the songs skip or pause during playback and maybe the sound quality is a little off on some of them also. What could be my issue here? Thanks in advance for any help you may offer.

Have you tried ripping your CDs on a computer and transferring those ripped files to the internal SSD using file manager? This might help you determine if the Rose ripping software is the problem or if it is some different Rose glitch. One CD would be enough for a test.

Thanks, no I haven’t tried anything yet. The cd rips with the metadata retrieval was one of the reasons I bought the HiFi Rose but I’ll give it a try. I have some music stored on my MacMini in FLAC format.

Yes, many purchasers consider the ripping feature a big factor in their decision.

That said, it is much easier to rip on a computer where you can edit the metadata and artwork with the help of a mouse and keyboard. From there you can transfer your newly ripped files to an external drive or directly to the Rose over your network.

One big advantage to this is that you have a backup of your music files on your computer if something happens to the Rose. For someone like myself who spent countless hours ripping and relabeling thousands of CDs, I would not want to do it a second time!

Since the CD ripping feature is an important part of the RS151, we would like to help determine whether the issue is related to the ripped files, the CD drive, or playback from the internal SSD.

Could you please check the following?

  1. Do the skipping or pausing issues always occur at the same point in the same tracks?
  2. Does this issue occur with all ripped CDs, or only with certain albums/tracks?
  3. Please try playing some of the FLAC files currently stored on your Mac Mini after copying them to the internal SSD of the RS151. Do those files play normally without skipping or pausing?
  4. If possible, please try ripping one of the affected CDs again and check whether the same issue occurs in the newly ripped files.

Please let us know the results. This information will help us determine whether the issue is related to the CD ripping process or playback from the SSD.

Thank you for your suggestion. I haven’t had the time to deal with the issue yet. I was just listening to some of the ripped music and I noticed the problem occurs on more than one album on multiple songs in different parts of the song. I’m really wondering if it is the SSD itself. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to check things out this weekend.

So glad you chimed in. So far it is happening on most of the ripped music that I’ve listened to. It is happening on every album at different points of the songs. I will investigate more this weekend. I’d really like to know if it indeed is the SSD itself. Thanks again for your help, I will keep you updated.
