Ripping with Generic CD Drive

Hi,

Bought a 150B. I already have a CD database ripped from a laptop using EAC. EAC usually gives very good results. I rip only wav files. So, I installed a 2TB SSD in my 150B. I ripped only one CD to that SSD using a Dell DVD drive. The drive is new. It came with a company laptop. So, I listened to the CD I ripped. You can CLEARLY hear skips, pops and other anomalies. PRETTY disappointing. I then “clicked” over to my NAS dive and listened to the same CD I ripped from EAC to my NAS. It sounds perfect.

My question is, you think the Dell drive sucks or is the 150B incapable of a true bit by bit copy of a CD?

Also, I ordered the Rose 780 CD drive. Im just waiting for it to come in.

Thanks!

You said it. EAC gives good results. Because it keeps re-reading until it gets the data right. But it’s not that user friendly, and it’s for windows. Probably the Dell drive has trouble reading your CD. That might be either or both performing sub-optimal. I had so much trouble with writable cd’s or bad cd’s that I don’t want any opticals anymore. Data cd drives (or burners) usually perform better.
