Room correction on the RS520

Hi all, considering to purchase the RS520 because it sounds and looks great. Not a fan of the Rose App, but can get around that with Roon. We move a lot and so our speakers have to operate in many different rooms, hence wanting room correction. I’m aware that profiles can be loaded through ROON, but then that only gets applied to roon as a source, no other sources. Are there other workarounds to add a device (e.g. MiniDSP Flex) to add room correction? Since the RS520 is an all in one, presumably not?

If anyone’s done this, would be great to hear. Cheers.

@cakepilot

We currently have no plans to add features for Room correction.

Well, it’s an issue you should take into consideration; the market, that is, your competitors, are moving in that direction.
I suspect integrating Dirac isn’t that complicated…or is it?

Hi, I’ve integrated the MiniDSP Flex into the digital output of my Rose 150… and it works like a charm.
But it has a drawback: you stop using the Rose’s DAC to use the Flex’s DAC. But it turns out it’s a very good DAC, and the result, with Dirac, is spectacular. I suffered a lot with the sound in my room, which, when analyzed, turned out to have an atomic bomb at 80Hz and an abysmal chasm around 400Hz… My musical life with these problems was impossible, neither with the Rose nor without it, until I integrated the Flex with Dirac. I must also say that I only have one dedicated listening room. I hope this helps you. Greetings from Spain.

It’s true that dirac makes miracles, i bought a nad m10 v2 last year and i didn’t think it will completely change my way of listening to music (diract live that came with the nad was not the full version and i bought the full version). Before dirac i really hated to listen to music because i had to equalize each track i was playing to (my living room is 22 m2 with bad old walls). Since dirac i nearly don’t touch equalizer (i just change the bass level from time to time), dirac adds some Spatialization and bass, mids and highs are very well balanced. I really recommend the dirac room correction.

Hey! Very interesting to hear. So how exactly are is Rose connected to the MinIDSP Flex, and then back to the Rose? So you’e essentially using the Rose as Streamer and Amplifier, and DSP for Dirac and digital to analog conversion (feeding back analog to the Rose!?). Correct?

How did you end up with this setup, vs. just removing the rose and going for a miniDSP SHD with a separate power amp? Would be a simpler setup, no? Appreciate the help!

It’s really that big of a (positive) difference? Did you replace the RS520 with a Nad M10?

Hi Cakeparty,I’m probably a little late but here’s what I did.I bought an SHD mini dsp from Deer Creek Audio that came with Dirac already loaded.I am not well versed at most things electronic,so George at Deer Creek Audio in Colorado helped me remotely and the difference is simply amazing!!!If you haven’t already solved your situation I would highly recommend giving him a call.If you want any information about my system besides the rs 520,don’t hesitate to reach out.It is simply amazing what that SHD did for my system at a very affordable price!!Happy listening,Jay

Hi Jay,

Hey Jay, thanks for the info. Sounds like you’re a happy with the SHD. Do you use it alongside the RS520 (how?), or in place of the RS520?

Yes i was very skeptical about effect of dirac room correction, before bass makes my furnitures to shake and trembles make me having an headache after a few hours of listening.

I bought first the nad then rs-250a, i don’t have the rs520

So you’re using them separately, not together!?

I use it with the rs520 and George helped me hook it up but here goes: coax out of bottom digital out on SHD to coax in on 520,analog out 3 to sub,Ethernet connected out to internet on both, out 3 on SHD to cinema 40 (Marantz),and RCA analog in.Hope this helps!

BTW,this allows me to use the dac in the rs520 which is an excellent ESS dac but the one in the SHD is also very good I’ve been told .Are you only using for 2 channel listening ?

Together nad is the amplifier and rs-250a is the streamer
