Rose and TAD at the Goteborg HiFi Show

While there are a couple of people here who like to dump on Rose…
Here’s a link to a short of a video taken at the Goteborg HiFi Show where the company showcasing TAD uses Rose as its source. (Everything else in the system is a TAD product.)

What makes it a bit noteworthy is that Rose isn’t a partner to this room. The vendor chose to use it.

So I’d say that is a positive thing.

If people didn’t have issues with software, they wouldn’t be criticizing it; but when they do encounter problems—along with a few other things—it’s hard for them not to write a few sentences, which might not necessarily be sweet.

There is the strong issue with the closed source WiFi Stick which is not possible to replace with any other model.

This should be solved so people can choose from more products not only 1 from South Korea.

Its one thing to be critical about the flaws, but its another to be completely negative, and hype your other systems. If they hated the system that much, sell it and move on.

I mean for someone to say “Hey Rose, this or that is broken, please fix…” No issue there.
Or hey, I’m getting lousy customer service… Ok, that’s a real issue.

But you know who I mean. Those who try to get threads shut down.

So the issue isn’t “Open Source” vs “Closed Source”.

The issue is that when you have an external wi-fi / bt module, you need to have the specific drivers for that unit, ready to load at startup. So Rose has to then have a list of devices and their drivers already set up in their OS.

You also have to remember that Rose is a Korean brand first, then global. Its not something like Eversolo which was made for the global market, not to mention most of the dongles are made in China.

But even there… they provide a built in mini board for wi-fi and bt. So no dongle.
Rose did this w the RS451 which I suspect is what they are going to do moving forward.

I wish they would pull a couple of engineers to look at grabbing a version of linux focused on audio and then go that route… but I don’t see that happening. Its a huge lift.

If you look at the RA80, there’s no Internet connection, and the only digital thing is a USB port which I suspect is only for firmware updates.

In terms of design decisions. They could have left the RA80s a bit bare bones w no large optical display and then tie it more to the RS451. The display is a bit polarizing and to be honest… if they don’t fix the VU meters… its going to get negative reviews.

I think most (if not close to all) of us are very positive about HiFi Rose being excellent sounding gear. From that point of view I’m a very big fan of my RS130.

Right.
And I like my RS520, warts and all.

Outside of the firmware/software issues… I don’t expect to see a retrofit for existing hardware.
However, I would hope that Rose continues to advance their hardware.

The RA80s are supposed to have an improved GaNFET amp.
I’d love to see more info when it gets released.

When customers are really afraid to perform software updates then the company might have serious problems.

And i am not even talking for the desasterous RoseTube software

It goes without saying that flaws and issues—for instance, those related to software or the app—should be brought to light. The same applies to how Rose addresses user problems, an area where their performance has been poor lately.
But the worst part is that, even though I’m now on my second device from Rose, I’m genuinely afraid to update the software on my RS151. That’s just not good—to put it mildly.
