Hi, Thanks for allowing me to join! Proud owner of a new RA280 amplifier, but I have a question re the physical volume control. When using, I find there is a worrying amount of vertical movement in the control, it can move up and down quite considerably, as if not attached to the chassis correctly.
Is this normal? And if so, what is the reasoning behind it? Apart from this concern, I can report the amplifier is an absolute delight, and improving every session. Has a great ability to control speakers, I currently switch between Jern (very low sensitivity, with a REL sub) or Tannoy DC4000 12 monitors, highly sensitive. Both sound fantastic! Great amplifier, but I hope someone can clear up my concern with the volume control.
Thanks, Craig.

We are very happy that you are satisfied with your RA280.
I didn’t understand your problem about vertical movement in the control correctly. Please provide a more detailed explanation or video.
I have tried to upload video from my iphone, but will not accept format. To describe the problem, when using the volume control manually, it is solid on a side to side axis, but vertically, the whole volume knob can move up and down in the facia by about 10 mm, feels very loose. Is this normal?
Hi there, what type of volume control does the RA280 use? Is it an analog volume pot like an Alps Blue? Thx
RA280 useEven if you search for Apfs rk16814mga10, you cannot find products like this. This model was custom-made for RA280.s analog volume pot using built-in Apfs rk16814mga10 (custom requested model)
Hi Craig,
I just picked up a new RA280 from my dealer to try out and I also noted the vertical movement of the volume control.
Maybe it is normal but it seems a bit strange.
Have you or Rose been able to determine if it is normal or something is wrong?
Regards, Arno
Hi Arno, after conversation with my dealer and distributor, comparing to demo amps they have, this seems to be normal, but no one can really tell me the theory behind the design. However, I can tell you that in use via remote, app or hand control, it is absolutely perfect, and a really impressive amp. No regrets at all on putting one in my system. Would love someone at Rose to explain the science behind the design though, just for curiosity.
Hope that helps,
Craig.
Hi Craig,
Sorry for the late reply and thank you for your answer !
Good to hear that the movement is normal.
Could have something to do how the knob is attached to the volume potmeter.
I also use the remote for adjusting volume and that works indeed fine.
The RA280 has been playing now for three days and I’m very happy with the looks and how it sounds.
Will be notifying the dealer that it wil be a keeper!
Enjoy your AR280 Craig!
All the best from the Netherlands,
Arno
