Help! May 2024.
I have just purchased my Rose RS 150B and simply cannot get it to play music from my NAS. My previous streamer worked fine. it was a Bluesound Node 2i so I was looking forward to a significant upgrade with the HiFi Rose 150B.
I have a Synology DS713+ NAS with all my CDs ripped using Apple Lossless. The music files are stored on the NAS in a folder structure that appears as /…/Media.localized/Music/[Artist]/[Album]/ with each song track saved as a “.m4a” file.
On the Synology NAS
- I set up a dedicated user on the NAS with read only access
- I used a password without special characters as I saw one of the posts saying the $ sign causes issues
- I tested the new user access from a separate device to ensure I can see the music folders (by artist / album) and the tracks (all .m4a)
- SMB services is enabled on the Synology NAS
- The Log Centre on the Synology software shows that the Rose user account successfully accessed the shared music folder ‘via [CIFS(SMB3)]’. This shows the Rose is successfully addressing the NAS.
- The Synology NAS is using the Synology software DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 6, which it reports as the latest version
Accessing the NAS from the Rose device
- I can find the NAS on my home network from the Rose. I can set up the location of my media library as the network folder that contains the various sub folders by artist and album with the tracks in. I was able to enter the unique user name and password on the Rose to access this folder on the NAS: smb://192.168.0.11/…./Media.localized/Music/
- When I attempt to “Add DB” from within System Settings / Media Library on the Rose, it immediately reports “scanned tracks 0 (audio 0, video 0)” and this does not change
Separately
- I can find the tracks from the Rose device using the “Music” application, clicking on the folder and searching the local NAS drive /artist/album/track.
- I can select a track and ask the Rose device to play the track using the “Add a song to listen to right away” choice in the Music Queue Settings but the song never plays. I can see the name of the track and the Rose circular “hour glass” simply circles without playing the song.
