Rose RS150b and Yamaha Steinberg USB DAC

Hi.

Today I connect my Yamaha CD-S2100 which have USB DAC to Rose RS150b by USB cable.
Unfortunately without success. There is no sound when I play music from Rose by USB on Yamaha.
Yamaha has Steinberg USB driver.
Any progress to resolve this problem?
Yamaha CD-S2100 or CD-S3000 has very good DAC ESS 9018 and I would like to play music from Rose to Yamaha without and problems.
Regards

The RS150B has a superior DAC (ES9038PRO) than the Yamaha and so I don’t know why do you want to use the DAC from thd Yamaha for it.

My experience with three Hifi Rose streamers and external USB DACs:

  • try different USB cables
  • start external DAC first
  • once the DAC was recognized, it will normally seen also the next time

Numbers are numbers. Sabre ES9018 is a very good DAC, it sounds very analog and warm.
The same DAC is in my Burson Conductor V2+ and with this unit there is no problem.

I tried 3 different USB cables. Problem isn’t with cables.
Burson Conductor V2+ is recognize as Xcore USB Audio 2.0 even when it off.
Yamaha isn’t recognize, no matter which source is on first.

Hello,

  • From what I understand, it’s not that the device is recognized but produces no sound — rather, the RS150B does not recognize the Yamaha CD-S2100 at all. Is my understanding correct?
  • Is the USB cable length under 3 meters? I’d also like to know whether the issue persists even when using a simple, standard black USB cable (not a high-end one).
  • Could you please check if the sound works normally when connected via COAX or OPT instead?

Hi.

When the USB cable is plugged into Yamaha and Rose - on the display on Yamaha shows only 192kHz and nothing change, when I play on Rose DSD, Flac or other music file.

When the USB Cable is unplugged from Yamaha there is on display “Check PC”.

So Yamaha see Rose but nothing is chcange when I play seweral music files and there is no sound in speakers.

The same way I do with Burson and everything is OK.

By COAX or OPT everything is OK.

Hello,

  1. After connecting the Yamaha via USB, when you go to RS150B > In/Out Settings > USB OUT, does the Yamaha appear in the USB DAC list? Or does it not show up at all?
  2. For now, could you try playing Rose Radio instead of FLAC or DSD files?
  3. Could you please try setting it to RS150B > IN/OUT Settings > Output Settings > PCM Resampling Frequency > 44.1kHz / 48kHz?

Best Regards,

  1. No, Yamaha doesn’t appear in menu with lists USB DAC. As I wrote, only Burson is show as Xcore USB Audio 2.0.

Hello,

I have reviewed the product manual, but it’s difficult to determine the exact cause based on that information alone. According to discussions on the Roon forum, it appears that some other devices, including the Roon Nucleus, have experienced similar issues when connected to Yamaha products.
For now, I recommend trying a different type of connection instead of USB and contacting Yamaha for further assistance.
