Rose Youtube first impression

Just a thumps up on how good this is, the sound is very impressive better then I was hoping for…

I am mostly into hi-end 2 channel audio, I did worry it was a little bit of a novelty, but feel now that Rose is pushing things in the right direction, Youtube content is only going to get better in the coming years.

I love it too. In spite of its faults (nothing is perfect) it has still given me a great deal of pleasure.

Are you guys connected to tvs or AV processors using the HDMI out?

Eleven,

I’m not, at least not directly. I send video HDMI out through my Anthem AVM70-8k to a Sony LED projection TV. The audio goes from a HiFi Rose RS130 to a HiFi Rose RS 160 DAC then to the Anthem audio out and then to a Mini DSP where it splits to Ripole Subs and Popori WR-2 Electrostatic speakers.

When funds allow I would like very much to add a small projector to the HDMI out, it would be cool to experience your favourite films with mega sound tracks through your audio system.

So the only DAC you are actually hearing is the one in MiniDSP? Figures…

I connected my 150B to my Marantz 8012 and then out to my Sony TV. What a great way to watch concerts that are often unavailable on disc.
This is one advantage that Rose has over other streamers even if it’s only stereo. Also it is advertisement free.
I’m surprised Rosetube is not highly promoted.

I’ve looked at the ripole subs… they don’t go really low, but supposedly they have a cleaner output.

And those Popori are nice. Audiophile junkie love them… was in the room at AXPONA where he gave a mini lecture to another guy looking at them.

Ignore Boris. He’s just jealous…

Rather hard to be jealous of stupid people.

It takes smegmel, or standardmoron, to consider something that fails at the one and only thing a subwoofer should do to be good, just because it does not do its job “cleanly.”

I simply connect HDMI from the RS130 to my TV’s HDMI input. Very nice picture and great sound from my stereo, probably not as good as Qobuz for example but I really don’t know. Audio is certainly good enough for me and the videos are very enjoyable.
I also like that Rose Connect treats music files and videos the same, putting all into the queue so that they play the same (in order, video then audio then audio for example, seamlessly however you load them into the queue).

This product has potential but as of right now, the user experience is brutal. The networking sucks. If you have a network outage the entire device requires TLC to reconnect again. If you change network AP’s is your house, you lose your connection to the device. The error messages make no sense. They put a PIN on network setup. Really? A PIN? Like we don’t have enough nonsensical passwords in our lives. Sorry but this device is not ready for primetime. Wish I hadn’t purchased it.

The PIN is due to EU compliance. I agree its silly and that its an 8 digit pin rather than a 4 digit one.
[And that you need to have a PIN in the first place… but its the EU nanny state you can thank for this…]

I agree that there are issues w certain data being cached so that if your home network is bounced… you may have issues. However, there are some easy fixes to this if you can access your network’s config. Most home networks where you have DHCP, you can tie devices based on their MAC address to a specific ip address so that it always maps to that specific address. (That address is removed from the DHCP list of available addresses. ) This means that if you have a networking issue… the device will always have that address and still be configured for DHCP. An alternative would be to create a static IP address and then configure the ROSE device to always use that static address. Note that if you’re using your Internet’s provider’s equipment, you may need to contact them for assistance, or if you’re using your own AP you may need to contact that company or search online for ‘How To’ material.

HTH

Nanny state or not, they do not require PINs. That Rose doesn’t want to pay a competent legal counsel to read EU directives any more than they want to pay for competent programmers is a totally different issue.
