RoseRS520 turns Off randomly šŸ’„

Hello,

Since last update my beloved Rose RS520 keeps turning off randomly instead of going to Sleep mode.

This can happen as I switch it off (while it is supposed to go sleep mode) or randomly at night without any interaction.

The main concern here is I then do struggle to turn it up again! Like it was dead…
Is this a software issue or a more serious electrical malfunction?

Until now my RS520 was always in sleep mode waiting to be awaken from Roon for instance …

Now as it is off and I struggle bringing it back to life I am having an hard time with it.

Any clues about this erratic behavior shall be welcomed!

Thanks in advance
Stephane

I can tell you, I had an RS250A for a long time, I did all the updates they periodically released, and I never had a problem. Currently, I have an RS151, and since I did the last update, everything has gone to shit! The audio has changed for the worse.

Yeah, I’ve had the same issue too.
Thought it was my imagination.

I’ve got the clock on during sleep mode, so I’ll have to keep an eye on it.

Just to follow up… w the clock on… its staying on.
Now when I go to the Rose Connect App, it says its off, but will start up.
So I suspect this is the suspend mode because if it was off… then the app wouldn’t see it.

Hi
And thank you for these replies ; so I am not the only one having issues with this machine going half dead!

I am going to try the clock sleep mode tips so as to prevent it from swooning…

This afternoon I found my Rose still in clock mode but super hot so hot that the system displayed a message as I was planning a Roon listening session. Please Reboot bla-bla-bla … The message appeared twice after a few songs. I ended up switching it off to make it cooler.
I shall see this evening if I can switch it on again with no effort.

By the way It looks like I can roll back to OS 5.8 if I use the early release function although it is factually a roll back. But is this safe ???

Stephane

That’s weird.

Is your RS520 in a rack or enclosed space?

Mine is on the top of a console, runs warm/hot when playing… but cools off.

I just pause the music, leaving it on and have it go into its sleep mode within 2 hours. Then the USB ports are on, and the clock is on the front panel.

You can set it to suspend if no music is being played.

What does @ROSEHAN say?

Dear HiFi Rose users

Please check the video below. Is the following function activated?

The issue for me was that one time… the unit shutdown instead of going into sleep mode.
Now I could have accidentally turned it off, but since i made sure the clock mode was always set… it goes into sleep mode.

@Smegel

If you need any additional information, please let me know.

Right now I’m good.

I do notice however that at times the airplay connection gets dropped intermittently.
If I can figure out what is causing it… I’ll let you know.

Actually one thing comes to mind… is there a time out feature that causes the RS520 to drop the airplay connection if there’s nothing on it?

@Smegel

The RS520 does not include a specific ā€œtimeoutā€ feature that intentionally drops the AirPlay connection when no signal is being sent. If the AirPlay connection is being dropped intermittently, it is more likely related to network conditions (Wi-Fi stability, router settings, or interference) rather than an intentional disconnection from the device.

We recommend checking the following:

  • Ensure that your RS520 and the AirPlay source device are on the same stable network (preferably 5GHz Wi-Fi if available).
  • Reboot your router and the RS520 to refresh the connection.
  • If possible, try assigning a static IP address to the RS520 to improve connection stability.

If the issue continues, please share more details about your network environment so we can investigate further.

Hi,
The network is fine.

It could be that its on the Mac side because I do run some heavy loads on it…
This is why I’m asking if anyone else has this problem and its also intermittent.
So it’s hard to trace…

Hello there

I have tried this standby screen mode instead of the sleeping mode but the unit gets unstable at wake up.
I systematically get a Reboot message…
I also get after Reboot an error message reading Ā«
TheRS520 DAC is not connected yet.
Please wait for a moment.
If this DAC issue continues to occur, please ā€˜reboot’ and try again. Ā»
Kaboom :exploding_head:

Is there a way to rollback to a previous OS version so as to retrieve a proper working version of the OS?

I am more than unhappy at these bugs that make my once beloved Rose unit looks like a Temu device!

Stephane

That doesn’t sound right.

The interesting thing for me… I don’t notice it going into sleep mode unless I hit the power switch. (Then it goes to the clock until I hit it again and power it up.) I know its in sleep mode because my Rose app can see it on the network. If it were completely powered off… nothing.

How old is your unit?
Is it under warranty?

Have to also ask… did you do a factory reset yet?
It could be that you need to go back to a prior version… then redo the upgrade.

If that fails… it could be the unit.

@Smegel @thecementgarden

Does the same issue occur after you factory reset your Rose device?
Rose device–>Settings–>System settings–>Factory reset

Finally, when the pop-up message appears, please take a picture and share it with me.

Hello

Even a reset did not change a thing. In the end I did revert to version 5.8 via EA link on the screen of my RS520. No more intempestive reboot so far. I switch it to stand by mode via the App.
By the way the English naming is not very straightforward : Ā« standby Ā» would have been so much clear!

@thecementgarden

First of all, I’m glad the issue has been resolved.
We plan to release a new update for the official version tomorrow.
