RS 130 competition

The RS 130 has some real competition in the Eversolo T10 at half the price.

Yup.
There’s always going to be competition.
In one of the Rose Product reviews… the article said that there were only 27 employees in the company.
Not sure how accurate that head count is these days. Still even if its a little larger… much smaller than most of their competition.

I don’t think it does video.

Honestly there are a lot of competitors where the features may not directly overlap.

The video seems to be a bit of a quirk.
Its not like an AV receiver where you have video sources coming in and going out.
There’s the eARC which is for audio in… but the video out is for RoseTube and output to a screen. Not a pass through function. (Or am I mistaken?)

Eversolo, on the other hand, has opted for a software-based approach, relying on the local network to display content on a large screen (via the Eversolo Control TV app or the Boundless Display web feature), without the need to physically route video cables through the audio hardware.

Grammophone,

I agree. As long as the video gets to the display and is of good quality, what’s the objection about how it gets there? To the end user, if it works well, what does it matter how it works?

Key advantages:
No interference:
Isolates the audio signal from electrical noise caused by video cables.
Less clutter:
Eliminates the need for long, expensive HDMI cables running to the TV.
Flexibility:
Allows the interface to be transmitted to any screen connected to the same network.

Three different types of large video displays too:

  • the first one with the album art centered on screen with the name of the song and band underneath the album art.

  • the second one with the album art to the left with the name of the song and band underneath the album art on the left side of the screen, and with room for lyrics on the right side of the screen.

  • and a third theme where the album art fills the whole screen.

My point was that it was a quirk.

The disadvantage to ‘software’ is that you’re relying on the LAN and in some cases wi-fi which also presents some issues. So nothing is perfect.

Now if I use spotify… I can run the TV app while the sound comes from the stereo. W airplay… multiple room stereos. (from the iPhone) Of course this is outside of the Rose.

But I digress.
I never understood the video out except for when you want to run RoseTube.

I’m sorry to say that I don’'t use all the features of my RS520 even though I did test them.

Smegel,

Perfect is the enemy of the good.

I don’t know that the tortoise and the hare analogy works. Because in this case the tortoise would be Rose.

Rose isn’t releasing products like ES.

Also Rose is a much smaller company.
Do they manufacture the units themselves? Outsource to another company (parent company?)

The other thing is that the Korean market is a bit different. When I spoke to the folks at Mon Acoustic they said they tuned their speakers differently for the Korean market. The Chinese companies are manufacturing for the global market first.

Smegel,

Well, I didn’t make my point very well. I intended the opposite.
To my eye, HiFi Rose was initially way ahead of the market in its brilliant idea of blending high quality sound with high quality displays (the hare).

Over time they just sat on their laurels and let the Chinese catch up and some would say surpass them i.e., the tortoise. One update a year, brilliant hardware and so-so software.

I’m a fan boy but I can see what has happened and on this forum prophesied that this indeed would happen. I still own four Rose products and love them. Lately, I have to applaud the latest software and the frequent updates. Maybe HiFi Rose has gotten the message. I’m happy with my purchases and will buy more as soon as they become available.

Yeah but I don’t know if its appropriate to say that they sat on their laurels.
They are a small company and there’s a cost to R&D and then the question of what’s next?
Not to mention they’re fixing the issues which need to be fixed.

I would anticipate that things like the RS520 which is getting old would be refreshed with a new design. The RS451 for example but w improved amps.

Would also love to see them get off the older version of Android, but that’s going to be difficult. y are

Not to mention they are feeling growing pains. While here in the US they’ve got a good partner w MoFi, but in Europe… not so much apparently.

I know we both agree that the sound is superior but then again for products like the ES and the RS130 its hard to tell apart.

Still rooting for Rose to continue to make good sounding products.

Have you heard it in person ? I have. The RS130 is way better.

Did you compare the two with identical downstream cables, components and speakers in the same room? Both models output digits, not sound, I think there would be no difference but I have not done the test.

And that’s the problem.
To do a head to head comparison, you need to do a complete ABX test.
I don’t know of anyone who’s done that.

The other issue isn’t just that you have them attached to the same gear, but also the quality of the gear and the room’s acoustics itself.

When you have products that are comparable on paper and are within the same price range… I doubt you’d have a night and day difference. Maybe you can hear the difference, maybe not. YMMV.

There’s a well known stereo store a couple of miles away from me.
They work w MoFI and have some Rose gear thru the shop. On the floor, they used ES gear. Not because its better, but that when people walk in the door, they are familiar w t the brand name and the Eversolo looks nice and sounds decent enough. If you make it to AXPONA, if you go to some rooms… you’ll see Eversolo. If you go to a room which is a Rose Dealer… you’ll see some Rose gear like the RD160 in the rack but its not really front and center.

That’s how it is! Not only would there be no difference to ES10 and 130, but also no differences between the internal clocks, possible Snake Oel power, USB or speaker cable.

Therefore, this entire chat is useless. Everyone buys what they think for themselves to be the right devices.

Yes, same room - my listening room. The only thing that changed was the Rose and Eversolo.

Oh well. :face_with_monocle:
The market abhors a vacuum. It will be difficult for Rose to compete with Zido.

Bonte,
You missed it again.

My point was that how much of a difference you will hear, or not hear will depend on factors outside of the products being tested.

You clearly have a chip on your shoulder and are not paying attention to the conversation.
