RS 130 Playback stops erratically

My RS 130 is has an ethernet connection with a typical speed 300 Mb/s and is directly connected to the router.
i installed a 2tb hard drive that is less than 1/2 full with FLAC files.
Qobuz is the streaming service.

Increasingly, random songs will just stop playing and it’s happening more often.
The internet service is generally strong but there can be wobbles.

I was under the impression that the streamer had multisong buffers to ensure that internet fluctuations do not adversely impact playback. If network instability is the source of this issue then why do the sudden stops also occur during playback of songs on the internal hard drive?

I’ve rebooted the RS 130 a number of times - have not tried a factory reset.
I’ve rebooted the router.
Neither of which have helped.

I’ve not been able to locate directions for updating the software (But I was also under the impression that the RS 130 self updating.)

Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Could you please confirm a few things for us?

  1. Aside from playing Qobuz content, are you also experiencing the same playback interruption issue when playing music files stored on the internal hard drive?
When you say the music “stops,” do you mean that buffering appears on the RS130 playback screen?
  2. When the interruption occurs while playing music stored on the internal hard drive, does the next track play normally if you manually skip to it?
  3. After performing a factory reset on your RS130 and rescanning the music files on the SSD, does the same issue still occur?
    RS130 → Settings → System Settings → Factory Reset
  1. The RS 130 crashes playing songs from the hard drive. The RS 130 crashes playing cds. The RS 130 crashes playing songs on thumbdrives. It also has continued to crash on streaming playback.

  2. The RS 130 crashes using either ethernet or wifi (two different distinct networks)

  3. When I say stops I mean the music stops playing - the progress bar races to the end of the screen - the machine then flashes up another song - sometimes its what was next on the playlist or sometimes it’s a completely different playlist. When it crashes on a song that’s on the hard drive it commonly goes to a song on the streaming platform. - Sometimes when the music stops there’s the ‘circling’ buffering symbol.

  4. Sometimes the unit just locks up - the remote control has no impact and the only option is a hard reset.

  5. I have reformatted the hard drive - no change.

  6. I have set a static ISP - No change.
7l I have done 2 factory resets - No change.

  7. I have contacted MoFi for technical support - provided copies of the reciept and the serial number - over a week ago. They have yet to respond.

  8. I understand the machines may be sensitive to variations in the signal quality - however- My desktop pc, TV and home theater system are all connected and don’t constantly drop the signal or crash.

  9. Connected my old WIIM ultra to the same ethernet and wifi systems - played fine for over an hour - The hifi Rose was crashing with every song immediately prior.

  10. Should be said for the few months it was working well I was enjoying the sounds that came out of it - sure the UI was a bit clunky - but sounded great in my space.
I’m disappointed and more than a little angry about the lack of support from the Mofi (the US distributor) and from the company it self. This is a very expensive box and I was looking forward to enjoying it for a long time.

Suggestions

@Blobby_723

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Could you please additionally check the following for us?

  1. When playing music files from the hard drive on the RS130, does the same crashing issue occur even if you use a different cable?
  2. When connecting the CD-ROM to the RS130, does the same crashing issue occur even if you change the cable?
  3. Since the crashes also occur when playing music from the hard drive or CD playback, regardless of the network connection, there is a possibility that the issue may be related to the cable itself or the RS130 main board hardware.

I will also contact the person responsible for repairs at MoFi and ask them to respond to you

hello,
Thanks for getting back to me.

  1. There’s no obviously swappable cable between Hard drive and the RS 130, the hard drive is installed in it’s bay.
  2. Same crashing occurs when I’m using the RS780

@Blobby_723

I have forwarded this issue to Tyler at MoFi, who is responsible for repairs, and included you in the email.

He will review the issue and contact you directly.
