RS130 and internal SSD

If you’re using an SSD inside your RS130 then you may want to uninstall it and see if you like the sound better.

I primarily used Roon but I installed a Samsung 1TB SSD into my RS130 and copied my audio files over to see if it sounds better playing from the internal SSD compared to Roon. It doesn’t. Playing from the internal SSD is brighter and tense, not desirable at all.

Then I forgot about the SSD and just left it inside the RS130 as I assume it doesn’t matter. Well it DOES.

With the SSD in place, streaming from Roon is also affected. The sound also becomes brighter and tense. Clearly the SSD, even unused, is interfering with the rest of the device. I have spent weeks trying to track down the problem until I removed the SSD, which brings the sound back to normal - smooth and relaxed.

YMMV of course but if you’re using an SSD in your RS130 then this is a simple thing to try.

Did you try using a USB stick and see if that makes a difference? Presumably that would work better and their sizes can match SSD’s.

I didn’t try USB stick as my primary use case is Roon. It’s definitely worth trying if one is not using Roon.

Is this the same when playing via RoseConnect?

I was using the RoseConnect app to play the local files in the internal SSD if this is what you mean. Not sure if there is other ways to play the internal files apart from that app.
