RS130 connection to RSA780

Hi all, I am coming from an Innuos Zenith where I had no problems ripping CDs to the installed HD.

I have since bought the recommended Samsung SSD and have it installed, after trying to rip new CDs I have run into a few issues I was hoping someone might be able to assist with.

  1. The meta database often mistakes the CD read as a different CD so I cannot download the correct CD
  2. The handshake using the supplied USB cable fails often. It happens right after I hit “ripping” and then “confirm”. I have read that is possibly due to power loss so I tried several other high quality USB and computer cables to no avail. Now the CD is stuck and several restarts fail. I have also tried placing the drive away from other power and sources cables too.
  3. Is there a way to update the RSA780 firmware somehow? My RS130 is running the latest.

@Dr_Jekyll

Please check the following:

  1. When your RSA780 is connected to the RS130 via USB, does the CD fail to eject even when you press the eject button on the RS130?
  2. If a CD is stuck in your RSA780, does it also fail to eject when you connect the RSA780 to a PC and try to eject it from the PC?
  3. If the answer to the above questions is yes, there is a possibility that the RSA780 is defective.
    Since the RSA780 does not support firmware updates, you may need to contact the dealer from whom you purchased it to request a refund or exchange.

It takes several restarts to get the disc ejected.

I still cannot rip certain CDs as the unit dismounts / disconnects when I hit the confirm button. How do I resolve getting it to rip discs as intended?

@Dr_Jekyll

I would appreciate it if you could also answer the following additional questions.

  1. When you connect your RSA780 to a PC, are you able to see the inserted CDs on the PC and perform ripping properly?
  2. When you connect the RSA780 to the RS130 and ripping does not work, is the CD information displayed incorrectly, or does the ripping not work at all?
  1. I do not have it connected to a PC nor am I am to try that. It’s in my home stereo system.

  2. Yes, the drive reads it and fills in the meta data. As I stated previously everything is fine right up until I press “confirm” and then it immediately disconnects.

@Dr_Jekyll

To better understand the exact cause of this issue, we need to confirm whether the same problem occurs when your RSA780 is connected to a PC.

Please check the following:

  1. After performing a factory reset on your RS130 and reconnecting the RSA780, does the disconnection still occur the moment you press the rip button?
    RS130 → Settings → System Settings → Factory Reset
  2. Since you mentioned that the issue occurs even when using a different cable, it appears there may be a problem with the RSA780 itself.
    If the same issue persists even after a factory reset, we recommend contacting the distributor in the country where you purchased the RSA780 to request repair or replacement.

I am on my 2nd RSA780 that I purchased from Crutchfield. The 1st one was noisy. If it can’t read the cd, (spinning circle), the power must be cycled and the eject button depressed multiple times on reboot. After ripping 87 cds, I concluded that it was defective. Sent it back for a refund and ordered a replacement. When I opened the new RSA780 from factory packaging, the 1st thing i noticed was what appeared to be a greasy fingerprint on the CD switch area. :worried: I have ripped over 100 cds so far. The replacement is quieter but still has the same issue identify some cds. Oddly enough, when the circle is spinning for over a minute and the cd won’t eject, cycle power and the meta data will appear along with the spinning circle. It will not allow ripping or eject. On reboot of the RSA780, press the eject in rapid succession to eject the cd. Also identifies some CDs metadata incorrectly. :neutral_face: Also, about 20% of my cds do not come up with any metadata. These same cds do come up with correct meta data when ripped to my MacBook with Apple CD rom.

@JoeB

First of all, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced while using the RSA780.

The issues you described regarding CD recognition failure, eject operation problems, and incorrect metadata behavior appear to require further internal investigation. In particular, since the same symptoms are occurring even with the replacement unit, we will review this together with our development team.

Also, in cases where metadata does not appear for certain CDs, differences may occur depending on the metadata server being used and whether the CD information is properly registered in the database.

For a more accurate investigation, we would appreciate it if you could provide a video showing the issue, along with your current firmware version and information about the CDs where the problem occurs.

Rip the CDs to your MacBook then transfer the music files to the 130. You will save yourself much time and frustration.

Okay let’s try this again. Here is the link to the RSA780 video. Thanks…

Thanks Eleven! That works much faster.

And much easier to edit metadata. My entire library was ripped, labeled, renumbered and “artworked” on the Mac. If I had to do it on the Rose I probably would have heaved myself from the Throgs Neck Bridge by now. Happy listening.
