RS130 output all files to DSD?

I am interested in pairing my RS130 to the T+A 200 DAC. I want to feed the T+A DAC only DSD which means I wish to convert my PCM files to DSD files then output the DSD files to at least DSD256.

I own HQPlayer which can convert all PCM to DSD - apparently. Is this possible and what software package could I use to accomplish this?

Will the RS130 convert all PCM files to output in DSD format?

The RS130 doesn’t have the HQPlayer NAA, so you cannot use it with the 130. You can achieve this with Roon however. I was doing this initially, but eventually decided that bypassing all conversions and upsampling was superior. Its really hard to A/B though, as the conversion to DSD usually comes with at least -3db on the output.

It’s mu experience as well that upsampling doesn’t really make an improvement (although you can hear differences). Either by the RS130, or by Roon.
I have no experience with HQ Player.

Are you using the T+A-DAC?
Special here, it makes a difference, which DAC is used and the T+A 200 is one of the DACs, which is predestinate (supporting native DSD) in using with a good DSD upsampling.
HQPlayer has a much better upsampling/filtering included than Roon, but I’m sure that Hifi Rose will never support NAA.

But what you can do: Use LMS/Lyrion with the C-3PO plugin (this plugin needs also some horsepower) and the RS130 as renderer

No, I have the PS Audio PW MK2, which is (also) working in/with DSD multiples. My impression is that the live upsampling is somehow impairing the signal. I wonder what the result would be when comparing the original with an upsampled file and the live upsampling signal, where it would matter where the calculation takes place.

But your DAC will upsample all PCM or DSD to DSDx20 before it outputs. You can’t set into a NOS mode and so resampling external doesn’t make here lot sense.
My primarily used DAC is the Holo Audio May and this connected to the Holo Audio Red (used with Ropieee).
Here I’ll get in Roon two endpoints. One I’ve disabled in Roon, because it’s used from HQPlayer and the other is directly used from Roon.
So I can directly upsampling with Roon and HQPlayer and for me HQPlayer wins here in every case.
Also one of my Hifi Rose (RS150) devices is connected to a Holo Audio DAC (Cyan 2) and there I’m using only Roon for upsampling (Cyan 2 is a NOS only DAC), which I like much more than the NOS only mode.

With HQPlayer you’re able to use very different DSPs (and also for some DACs individual corrects), which are sound different.
Here my current favorite settings:

Thanks for sharing!
Indeed, i can’t do additional upsampling in my dac. It must be done upstream. I found no benefits upsampling through Roon, nor through the RS130. As said, I dont have the HQplayer. That might do the trick. If this serves you best, that’s good for you!

Perhaps, you don’t understand my posting fully.
Your DAC will upsample all sources to DSD1280 (64*20).
And your DAC will IMHO only accept max DSD256 and has no settings to avoid the internal upsampling.
So it doesn’t make lot sense let the source upsampling (you don’t will hear a difference) also, if you could use HQPlayer.
In the Roon forum, there is a long thread about the perfect DACs for HQPlayer and why the use of HQPlayer (but also Roon itself) can make sense and why measurements from ASR are don’t showing the whole truth…

I believe I did understand you and share my experience of experiencing no sonic difference in my system. Also the I don’t know HQ Player. By your explanation, is understandable why that’s so. And I’m fine with that. It would also please me if others can enjoy better sonics through using upsampling. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes, enjoy your music without upsamplingĂľ and your great DAC :ok_hand:.

I use PGGB for offline upsampling to DSD256. PGGB is theoratically better than HQPlayer as it retains all the original bits and don’t find any artifacts like ringing generally associated with upsampling. This is way better than internal upsampling of Rose or t+a. T+A + Rose + DSD is a heavenly combo indeed. The biggest beneficiary imo is the vocals. So realistic after upsampling.

I do have some pops problem with Rose when switching between different sample rates when paired with t+a. Besides that, it is just too good with DSD
