RS130 Playback Stopping Constantly

My ~2 month old RS130 has now started to constantly stop playback. Sometimes it will play for 10-15 minutes fine and then stop, other times it won’t play at all right after power up. I use Roon and get a “Too many failures. Stopping playback” error after it skips over a handful of tracks. At this point it will not play anymore unless it is rebooted. This does not seem to be a Roon issue as using Tidal or Quobuz direct on the RS130 does the same thing. If I reboot the RS130 it will again work for a short period and then is stuck once again. Absolutely maddening! And unacceptable at this price point!

I use a wired ETH connection, but also tried WiFi with the exact same results. I have gone through a full factory reset and no change. I tried leaving it unplugged from power for a week to make sure all caps/energy storage was fully dissipated, again same crap.

I swapped in a Bluesound Node as a sanity check to see if it could be something else in the system, using the same ETH connection, DAC, coax cable, etc. Works flawlessly. So this is definitely an issue with RS130.

Help!!!

Other users had the same recently and after a few days the problem was over, mysteriously. Hopefully the same with you.
Rose didn’t explain why, if they know a/the reason.

It happens to me every time someone in the house connects Apple airpods to their iPhone or iPad. After disconnecting them playback is possible again.

That was my hope, but has not been the case and has been happening for over a week. I’d kind of hoped that having unplugged from power would “cure” things, but didn’t.

Interesting. That doesn’t seem to be the case here as it happens when I’m home alone or listening late at night when everyone is asleep. It also happens consistently every time I play music, regardless of other factors seemingly.

This afternoon I also had those pauses again. Just a short while everytime. No Apple devices in my household.

I wonder if a (failed/failing) connection request from the RS130 to Rose is interrupting the incoming music stream.
Normally, I would consider this unthinkable, but in this case would like to hear Rose’s thoughts on this issue.

This sounds different from what I’m seeing. Mine aren’t drops, but completely stopped playback, and I can’t get it to play again without a reboot.

Updates:

I tried a few different connection methods with interesting results. Using USB it works perfectly, with no stopping or needing to reboot. Switching to optical, while it took longer to happen, it repeated the same behavior noted at the beginning via coax. I’ve cycled through all 3 connection methods a number of times and the results are consistent. USB–always works. Coax or toslink and every time they will stop playback and require a reboot, then the cycle repeats. Unfortunately I don’t have an AES cable to test that.

Interestingly, in looking at the pictures of the internal circuit card layout on the product page, coax, toslink and AES are all on a daughter card, where USB is on the main board. The daughter card looks like it has some active components (probably a buffer/driver circuit). I’m speculating that there is a hardware issue with the daughter card.

Interesting conclusion! My issues are when using a I2S connection. This might also be facilitated by the same daughterboard. I’d like Rose’s thoughts on this.

Well to close this thread out, I talked to my dealer and MoFi had me send it in for service. They replaced the main board in it. I’ve been running it for about a week now with no issues so far. Fingers crossed!
