RS130 software volume into May Dac

I am new to the Rose130 streamer, just trying to use the 130 software adjusted volume control into the May dac and straight into a power amp, is this possible or will I need to buy a pre amp.

You can use the Software Volume control from the RS130.
But: This will degree the SQ and (not tested yet myself) will not allow to play DSD.
The May (I’m using in my systems a May, a Cyan2, a Bliss and a Red from Holo Audio) has also no PreAmp integrated and I would would use here a Bliss (if headphones are used) or a Serene from Holo Audio as PreAmp with an analogue volume control.
Surely any other PreAmp can used (in here I’m a fan boy from Primare (PRE35 Prisma).

As @burki mentioned, you can control the volume on the RS130 using the software volume control function.
Below is an explanation of the software volume control feature:

Some USB DACs support UAC2 volume control, while others support HID volume control.
In such cases, when you adjust the volume on the Rose, the volume command is sent directly to the DAC to control it.

If your DAC does not support this feature, you can enable Software Volume Control in the USB DAC settings under the I/O Settings** menu, and then adjust the volume via the Rose App.

Caution 1:
Software volume control cannot be used in Native DSD or DSD over PCM mode.
It only works when converting to DSD → PCM (up to DSD128) mode.

Caution 2:
For digital output, MQA Stream is supported **only when the volume is set to MAX.
If the volume is below MAX, MQA Stream will not be supported.

I have bought a pre-amp now, so I hope in a few days I can experience RS130 working in it’s full glory…

And which one do you’ve bought?
