RS130 Tidal dropout via 100mb Melco switch

Hi there,

I am experiencing Tidal dropouts since Max update.

Internet chain > Router > SoTm switch (1000mb port) > Melco S100 (100mb port) then Melco S100 (100mb port) out to RS130.

It seems the software hesitated many times streaming the music from Tidal especially max files at 192.

There is no problem with Qobuz or even streaming the same Tidal file through Roon. Everything is perfectly loaded. No dropout at all.

First, I thought it could be that the file is too large to stream through 100mb port but it is not. Same setup does not happen to Qobuz or Roon.

Additional info, when I change the port that coming out from SoTm 1000 into Melco 1000. The problem solved too but the 1000mb port internet sound really not good compared to the magic of 100mb port from Melco switch.

So I conclude that this is the software issue just for this specific setup for Rose to play Tidal Max.

Believe me I tried all possible connections in my chain just to specific the problem here.

Hope we can fix this because it does not happen to Qobuz and Roon with the same setup and the same track. BTW I just want to stick with Tidal because Qobuz and Roon sound cold to me.

Based on your explanation, this issue appears to be related more to software behavior with Tidal Max streaming under a specific network setup rather than a simple bandwidth limitation.

The following points are especially helpful:

  • Qobuz works normally
  • The same Tidal files work properly through Roon
  • Dropouts occur only with the ROSE + Tidal Max combination using the Melco 100Mbps port
  • The issue disappears when using the 1000Mbps port

We also appreciate the extensive testing you performed with different connection combinations.

We will share your setup details and findings with our development team for further investigation regarding Tidal Max streaming and buffering behavior under specific network environments.

Thank you for the investigation.

I’m back to update that I finally found the cause after months.

We need to adjust the PCM time delay for this case. The default is 500ms. It needs to be around 1500ms. to solve this problem.

Seems like the Tidal software inside Rose need more time to shakehand with the network in this condition in order to download the file. Especially if the system is clocked for multiple devices under 1 master clock.

Hope this helps anyone with the same problem. And maybe Rose team would adjust more buffer in Tidal since Qobuz is working perfectly.

btw the problem came back tonight. Hah. so I think it’s about tidal buffer which users cannot do anything with it. We will need software update on this.

@sasaki99

We handle Tidal playback the same way as Qobuz, without modifying the original streaming behavior.
Unfortunately, there is no separate method for us to increase the buffer on our side.

Since Qobuz is working perfectly while only Tidal playback is experiencing issues, please try the following:

  1. On your ROSE device, enter the ROSE Store, uninstall the Tidal app, and reinstall it. Does the same issue still occur afterward?
  2. Please log out of your Tidal account on the ROSE device and log back in again. Does the same issue still appear?
  3. On your ROSE device, open the Tidal app settings and turn OFF or clear the cache feature. Does the same issue still occur after doing this?

Thanks for coming back. I’ve tried those practices and nothing works. Still having loading issue. fyi the EA firmware version also not solving this. I will wait for the optional module that can run Tidal connect and see. If it doesnt work so I would consider selling rose.

The RW800 is currently scheduled for release on July 1.

However, please note that July 1 is the official product release date. Additional time will be required for units to be shipped to distributors in each country and then delivered to customers.

We estimate that it may take approximately one more month after the release date before customers are able to receive the product, depending on the distributor and local logistics.

Thank you for your patience and interest in the RW800.

Im not giving up yet LOL. Lately I tried using a managed switch that connect to router before distributing the internet throughout the house. I set the speed for the port that goes directly to the hifi room at 100mb. It seems working great. Very less dropouts but still sometimes it happens. Streaming MAX with various samplings from 44 to 192 is working better. Dont know what exactly the problem but trimming down from 1000 to 100 at the melco could cause TIDAL in rose hesitate in doing something.

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your test results.

It is very interesting that the dropouts have become less frequent after limiting the connection speed from 1000 Mbps to 100 Mbps. Since TIDAL MAX streaming requires far less bandwidth than 100 Mbps, this may indicate that there is another network-related factor involved rather than a simple bandwidth limitation.

We will share your findings with our development team for further review.

We appreciate the time and effort you have put into testing different configurations. If you discover any additional information, please feel free to share it with us.

Thank you.
