RS130 USB cannot support DSD Native ?

Hi,
I knew about the USB issue with many DAC.
Also I can’t find any solution to fix it from the forums, my DAC is McIntosh DA 2 in C53 Pre-amp, all the DSF files(DSD64) cannot play with DSD native mode. Only DOP mode to my DAC. All settings have to be under instructions but no use. DSD 512 cannot playback at RS130.
I changed another streamer (iFi neo Stream)to my DA2,everything is fine on DSD 512 native.
Now I am upset with RS130, and I only know the usb output support DSD native but disappointed.
All information from Google about RS130 usb output issue does not fix.
Would you have any solution, please let me know.

Rocky
Best Regards

Technically from a translation from digital to analog perspective, there’s no difference between native and DoP. I understand why you theoretically would prefer native, but what’s the big deal to you?
DSD512 could be played over PCM (see USB output settings). I think that would at least provide you the possibility of playing those files. Have you tried?

Hi Rocky,
I reported the same problem (native DSD playback and DSD512 files) to rose support. Unfortunately, the answer was beside the point and did not bring any solution.
I also asked here on the forum and it seems that some RS130 read DSD512.

Thanks for reply.
If you have a McIntosh DA2, you can try. Which is support DSD 512 native with iFi neo stream but cannot do it on Rose RS130. Also DSD 512 cannot playback though DOP by the setting. DSD compare with PCM are different sound quality from my McIntosh system.
If you have any suggestions about setting, usb connection, please advise, I am welcome.

Hi Paul,
I was disappointed on Rose RS 130. If cannot fix the usb connection problem, I will turn it back to change Aurender N20. it is not compatible with so many DAC.

When did you report that problem ?
Are you using the DA2 too ?

Thanks for your information.

Rocky

Hi Rocky,

I don’t have the DA2. I’m using Roon over my RS130. My Rose settings for DSD playback are set to native . However, Roon indicates that playback is DoP.
The highest available resolution is 256 and that’s played well, even if played in PCM 32/356.
I suggested you to change settings according to below image:

Please let us know if that works for you.

I reported from November 20, 2024, both to Customer Service & Technical, to hifi rose support, on the forum and to the dealer where I bought it.
The result, a big zero with a maximum of indifference!
I tried several DACs with the same negative result!
Unfortunately, customer support at rose is far from anything I’ve encountered in 40 years in the audio field.
But you can convince yourself, if you read here on the forum, the problems raised by various customers and the answers, always delayed, of the hifi rose representatives.
Regarding DSD512 in the official hifi rose specifications it says that it is capable of playing these files.

In reality, native DSD does not work, I could only play DSD DOP but not DSD512.!

Since the last update my RS150 and RS250 are both able to play native DSD until DSD512 through USB.
Surely this depends on the used DAC. Here I’m using a Holo Audio Cyan 2.

Thanks for your information.
Everything is usable to playback DSD512, only set to native but output is PCM 705.2 kHz. Also the sound was noisy. If set to DSD to PCM upto 512, it will show cannot support file.
Also I changed three usb cables, ground cable are the same result. Every methods include roll back the firmware, factory reset, reboot etc.
I think it has bugs in firmware, when changes settings on other outputs, all the outputs will change to the same but I only connected usb.
Reconnect to iFi or PC with foobar 2000, my DAC 's condition is perfect.
If it connects anything can fix it, I appreciate.

Seems that Rose RS130 the flagship network transport was a joke. It is uncompatible with Hi-end products. Now for me never heard the better sound quality on RS130.
If Rose 's engineer hadn’t fix the firmware issue, I 'm so disappointed.

The only issue I had was when trying to play dsd 512 via the I2S interface.
There is an A mode and B mode. The A mode looks like it only supports up to dsd256 whereas the B mode looks like it supports the full 22.57 MHz (dsd 512). I can’t get my dac (topping dx9) to sync in B mode with the I2S. Might be the cable as I haven’t tried too many as the usb worked straight away.

They have fixed (formerly over usb only DoP was possible as only option) a lot of things, but your DAC is not compatible with the Rose device.
If you want to have a better support, you’ve to change the brand (e.g. Lumin has a great support).

Thanks for your advice.
Lumin is not my cup of tea. I prefer another Korea brand (Aurender maybe better ).
Are you sure McIntosh’s DAC is not compatible with Rose device? I haven’t seen any announcements from Rose.
So interesting to hear about that.

Rocky

The from Rose used kernel (it’s the same in Linux and Android) must to know which DAC can handle native DSD over USB. Otherwise only DoP will work.
So Rose can change this with a firmware update, if they know the USB UUIDs from the DAC.
Here an example how SOtM shows an unknown DAC (only DoP):

The settings are not the problem. I use the same settings, but there is no signal at the output.

The title of the discussion is “RS130 USB cannot support DSD Native?” it’s not about RS150 or RS250.

RS150 and RS250 are streamers (they have internal DAC) not network transport like RS130 (which has no internal DAC).

The same DAC connected to another streamer (Aurender) reads native DSD512 without problems.
I have notified the problem, for several months, to the hifi rose representatives, but there is no solution.

I have been impressed with the topping dx9 so far. It has a very good headphone amp which may or may not be a nice bonus!
The dac chips are still the best available. It is also relatively inexpensive (wanted to say cheap but folks might get the wrong idea!)
It also has the glass see through top cover which also may be nice.
It has I2S which does work but just not in all the formats yet probably due to my cable.

the usb sounds great with everything including dsd512.

I do find burki’s diagnostics very interesting that the support for usb formats is based upon some flat file with a list of known usb uuids!

my only point was to show that the rs130 is capable of native dsd512 out of the usb interface with at least some dacs.
