RS150 humming sound

Hello Community.

I use a integrated amplifier connected to Rose RS150
When the amplifier alone turned on no humming sound could be heard through the speakers.

But when I turn on the RS 150 I can hear humming sound coming from the speakers When no music is playing.

The output level on the RS 150 9.0Vrms balance
Output level on RS 150 B 6.5Vrms balance.
The RS150 B you may need to turn your volume up about halfway to see if you can hear any humming sound coming through the Speakers.

I’ve got a UK spec streamer

Just wondering if anyone has come across this issue.

Hello,

There are several guesses I can make, the first thing to check is the electrical part.

  • What’s the model name of the amplifier you’re using?
  • Is your RS150 connected to same power socket with your amplifier?
  • Do you hear the hum noise when the volume of RS150 is set to zero(or mute)?

the RS150 is Faulty it need repairing or replacing it’s a shame that my UK reseller and distributor don’t want to take ownership. Both parties ,customer service does not provide any support for their customers.

what integrated amp? Rose 150 or 150b ? as you mention both, which output level are you using 9 or 6.5 as you state both. how do you have the rose connected to your amp?

The RS150 use 9.0Vrms (Balanced) means the humming sound is clearly heard from Across a 18 foot room size.

The integrated amplifier that I am using 1, Ayon scorpion tube amp 2 , Thorens_TTP-2000 Pre- power combo.

The RS150 it’s connected by Tellurium Q Ultra Black II XLR Balanced Interconnect I’ve also tried RCA cables But the Humming still continues.

Both amplifiers are working 100% fine when I connect other equipment no Humming sound is heard only when the RS 150 is connected the humming occurs.

Thank you for your Help

I experience the same thing. I am using my 150b as a preamp connected to two older Denon POA 6600 monoblock power amps. When I shut down the Rose a static loud hum come from the speakers. Same issue both with balanced and unbalanced connection. As there is no 12v trigger from the Rose the monoblocks are fully operational when the Rose is turned off.

Hi @RuneEllefsrud, I think the original post concerned a grounding issue between the 150 and the amps. It could have been a bad cable as well.

In your case, if there is no preamp in the middle, I would suggest the old school approach when there is no trigger. Shut off amps first and then the sources (150) last. The startup sequence is the reverse, start sources (150) first, then the amps.

Your issue has been discussed in another thread and I was able to reproduce your issue if I remove my preamp in the middle. Although advertised as preamp capable because it was a volume control, the relay switching in the 150 seems to produce a loud sound that I think can damage speakers if used as a preamp and it is shut off with live amps.
