RS150 Tidal video quality over HDMI out

Hello,

the quality of Tidal videos are presented blurred and grainy over the TV connected via HDMI. The HDMI settings are at maximum and the same video played through Rosetube is much better.

The problem is not with Tidal itself, in fact by playing that video from my Macbook using the same HDMI cable is very much crisp.
Seems like the problem is withiny the RS150 device and the decoding of the Tidal video.
I have done the factory reset but no luck.

Any suggestions or expected updates to fix the issue?

@oscarnoto

There is no separate part that decodes itself when playing Tidal videos on RS150.
Videos on Tidal are often of poor quality. However, there are some videos that are not on YouTube.

You seem to have tried things that I want you to try.

Thanks for your swift reply.
What is still weird is why I can play the same Tidal video at 1080 resolution through other devices and not through the RS150, which itself is able to play RoseTube videos up to 2160 resolution.
Can you please raise this point to the technical support for further investigation and solution?
Would the RS150B be better on such regards?
Thanks

@oscarnoto

This request can only be supported if Tidal supports an API for resolution selection.

As of now, we have confirmed that the API for resolution selection is not supported, so it is difficult to add it.

What am I supposed to do?
Main reason why I purchased the SR150 is to watch Tidal videos which are sampled at audio quality much higher than RiseTube videos.
I ve read on the web forums that other users have same issue
Thanks for supporting this case

@oscarnoto

Here are a few things to check.

  1. RS150B–>Settings → Display → What is the HDMI resolution set to?

  2. Is there enough buffer when playing on RS150B?
    If connected via WiFi, will the picture quality deteriorate even if connected via Ethernet?

My device is RS150(A)

  • HDMI set at 3840x2160 (Max resolution)

  • Ethernet connection

With RoseTube videos are well played up to 2160. With Tidal are nominal played at 1080 but they look look like 360 (grany and blurred)

@oscarnoto

We will report this issue to the development team again.

They say that the quality is automatically lowered when the network condition drops or the buffer is full.
Additionally, please tell us the model name of the TV you are using.

Could it help if I install an internal SSD for cache storage ?

@oscarnoto

We will check it on our side.
Before that, please tell us the model name of the TV you are using.

I am using SmartTV LG 55UV761H

Thanks

@oscarnoto

The next update will be released with a fix for the Tidal video output in low quality to be played in the highest quality.

Thanks a lot !
I was seriously impressed by the quality and promptness of your technical support.
Really satisfied about the post sale and customer service
