Rs150b completely dead

Hello everyone,

After two and a half years, my Rose RS150b died. No sign of life whatsoever. The fuse and cable are fine. At this price point, I find it outrageous.
Has anyone else had the same problem?

I am sorry to hear this and I hope that it is repairable without too much effort and expense. But if not, look at it as an opportunity to make a clean break.

For that price, one would expect it to last longer than that. The buyer that purchased my RS130 had the same issue when it was 9 months old. It was completely dead after he had it for 3 months. The warranty is transferable so I provided him with the sales receipt to get it fixed. Even Eversolo had some issues with the power supply in the DMP-6 Gen 2 and extended their warranty on the power supply to 2 years as there was a small batch with bad power supplies. I own own an A6 and they confirmed that I was covered for it. At least that unit cost considerably less than the RS150B.

I hope you’re able to get it resolved for not a lot of money. If it’s a costly repair, I’d look at it as @Eleven suggested that it was an opportunity to make the break from Rose.

Is this normal for a device at this price? Am I entitled to a goodwill gesture?

@Ericd

Here are a few things to check.

  1. When you unplug the power cable from the RS150b, plug it back in, and press the power button, does it still not turn on?

  2. When you press the power button on the RS150b, the white light on the power button blinks, but does it not turn on?

If the above doesn’t work, Seems like the LCD should be replaced.
Please contact your distributor to get the LCD replaced.
Please contact a distributor in the country where you purchased the RS150b for repair.

Here is the faulty component !!!

This component has been replaced with a higher quality one (Traco Power). and it works again :wink:

It would very helpful to better understand why the increase in product failures across the entire portfolio. I have asked till I am blue in the face but yet to receive a single acknowledgment let alone steps to remedy. Very concerning.

Given the high price of this device, one could expect a selection of high-quality components. Apparently, this is not the case for all the components, particularly in the power supply with the brand Mornsun.

I am happy for you. How did you determine which component was faulty, DIY or did you send it in? What was the repair cost and how long was it out of service?

A friend who’s an electronics technician did the repair. Since the device wasn’t showing any signs of life, he immediately suspected a power supply issue. The part costs €37. The repair was done in half an hour.

@Ericd ; it is good to have friends like that. Nicely done. Sadly Hifi Rose won’t comment on this or any like issues related to hardware failures with their products. I think as the existing products that are in use continue to age the number of units failing will increase dramatically, the real question is “Will Hifi Rose still be around to service today’s customers?”

That is great news! Was any soldering involved or is the power supply plug n play?

It appears to be in the unit’s power supply so its going to be a solder and replace.

@Ericd
Was your unit out of warranty?

In terms of quality of components… you can still have a high quality component and still have it fail.

out of warranty.

Yes, that’s true, you’re right… but with low-cost options, there’s a greater chance of a breakdown occurring. :wink:

soldering involved. It’s a small converter module → 5 Volts

It will depend on the component.
I’ve seen some cheaper components not fail while more expensive ones do.
YMMV.

I agree that you would want higher end components but these systems are a balance of cost optimizations.

I think there was an example of comparing KEF Meta R3 to a similarly priced Buchardt speaker. (I forget which model.)

The KEF had a superior built cabinet but cut corners on the XO. The Buchardt cut corners on the cabinet but used premium components in the XO. You can see the tradeoffs. Personally I’d take a used pair of KEFs and then rebuild the XO using better quality components. You could easily spend 200 - 300 USD per speaker on XO components and will easily improve the sound.

Note this is just an example showing the tradeoffs that get made.

@Ericd

We’re glad to hear that the issue has been resolved.
However, even if the unit is out of warranty, repairing it yourself may lead to other problems.
Therefore, we recommend having the device serviced through the distributor in the country where you purchased your Rose product whenever possible.

It’s true. It may lead to other problems such as trying to figure out what to do with the $1000 you saved.
