Sorry for the ignorance but I haven’t got either items yet. I’m hoping to get an RS151 and Pass Labs X250.8 for a good price. Will I need a pre amp or can I run the RS151 as a streamer/pre amp straight into the X250.8? I don’t have any need for other sources; will be using streaming only…
I use RS-151 and Yamaha M-5000 and this sound’s great. I don’t feel i need a preamp at all. The preamp in RS-151 is good, but use XLR if you can.

The RS151 supports variable output (volume control), so you can connect it directly to the Pass Labs X250.8 without the need for a separate preamp.
If you plan to use streaming only, configuring the RS151 as both a streamer and preamp is a perfectly suitable setup.
However, if you plan to use additional analog sources or would like more detailed control over sound characteristics, adding a dedicated preamp could also be a good option.
