RS250 as Preamp

Question for the group……
Is anyone experienced using their RS150/RS250 as preamp?
Feedback would be much appreciated!

@Manutd73

The role of the preamplifier is to amplify the signals of various equipment (turntables, cdp, etc.) with different output signal levels and deliver them to the power amplifier at a constant level, and additionally provide volume and source selection functions. Compared to previous devices, the analog output level of RS150 not quiet, so a separate preamplifier is not built in, so it does not amplify, but it can be seen that it can plays its role. You can use it with the integrated amplifier at a lower volume, or you can use it at a slightly higher volume by connecting it to the bypass stage of the integrated amplifier.

Thank you

Thanks for your reply.
So essentially what your implying is the preamp/ volume control in the RS250 is merely to adjust different input levels but better to use a a separate integrated or pre-power?
Thanks

No, the volume control is used to regulate the output voltage at the analog output. You can adjust the output voltage of the analog connectors. If the setting is deactivated, the volume control on the front panel is used to control power amplifiers or active speakers directly.
If you activate the setting, you can assign a fixed voltage to the analog output in order to connect the Rose RS250 to an external preamplifier or integrated amplifier. Normally about 1000mV is suitable.
I hope you understand my text, my language is German and not English.

Thanks and understood.

Hello

My first configuration was like this:
Rose and amp. No preamp.
It was too complicated to control the inputs (especially for my wife who doesn’t understand anything about how to do it with a rear view of the sockets. Fortunately, in the vu-meters options, there is a classic facade allowing you to know nothing about it ).
The Rose was connected with :

  • 1 PC-WIN10 via Optical
  • 1 DVD via analogue
Nothing by USB, because it is not controlled by volume, for me it is an aberration to have an unusable USB input. The sound is full and I almost destroyed my speakers).
1 TV via HDMI (I don’t understand why the HDMI TV output is not “on” by default. A useless button)
It happened to me that at the end of a youtube video that the Rose chained on a piece of SSD (painful …).
All this with a remote control on a smartphone unsuitable for big fingers.
I changed the amp for an integrated and I only use the Rose for streaming and reading the SSD that I installed in it (and that I disassemble to fill it, I never managed to see the Rose on my home network)
Now, I use my 4 inputs withe the integraded (not with the Rose).
    Line 1: PC
    Line 2 : DVD
    Line 3 : Chromecast
    Line 4 : Pink

And everything becomes easy.
I leave the volume of the Rose at 70%, and increase or decrease the volume with the remote of ampli-integrated (when I’m in the living room).
I am in my office, with the smartphone, I can increase from 70% to 100%. If my phone rings, I put it between 0 ans 70%.
I don’t have a remote control (or an app) to control my integrated amp from another room.

Best regards

Yes, severals people can use Rose with smartphone

With my Marin Logan Sequel2, the Coda technologie Csi Ltd is the best :+1:

I have been able to use the RS250 as a preamp and sounds fantastic. I am running either USB or Coaxial out to Chord Qutest output to power amp. You have to adjust the settings to allow volume adjustment. Use remote to control volume. Be extremely careful and start RS250 at very low volume and slowly increase the gain.

Unless I am mistaken, the USB input is not connected to the volume. It’s 100% all the time. A big mistake. I almost killed my speakers. I had to put a USB → RCA converter to use the analog input.

Yikes! Not sure about the input. I use the Rose as my input. I was referring to the UBS OUTPUT on Rose to my DAC then DAC output to power amp input. You have to into the setting function to enable the volume control.

I have attached pictures to clarify.
