RS250 malfunction after failed repair

My RS250 suffered from frequent freezes and malfunction. It was send to service for repair. After 3 weeks it was send back but freezes still occur.

Today morning I was unable to turn the unit on - no response to remote control, app, switch on unit. Once again I had to restart the machine by disconnecting it from mains.

See video of actual event:

Hello,

Would you check the message please?

Streamer froze again, this time during streaming from Tidal.

See link below:

I had this issue when I brought the RS250.
Random freezing which would happen multiple times, only way to ‘fix’ it was to power cycle the device.
So it went back to the dealer for testing and then to the supplier here in the uk.
They acknowledge the fault, but did not say what it was when questioned. The supplier replaced it with a brand new unit.
Which has been working fine.

Thank you for the comment.
I was contacted by our local distributor and they offered the same solution. I must wait for a new delivery and they will ship a new streamer.

Here is another of several freezes during this weekend.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I just received my unit yesterday and after a few hours noticed that the display was locked up and wouldn’t respond to iPad or touch commands. I powered it off/on and the display just showed the logo for 20 minutes and nothing else. Unplugged it overnight and now when I plug it in and power it up it shows a blank backlighted display. No response to touching the screen and the app doesn’t find the device.

Got to use if for five hours before it stopped working. I guess I will call Crutchfield and get it returned. I don’t think I will order another one if this is the type of quality control I can expect from a HiFi Rose component.

Sorry to hear it! As for my player - new one is on it’s way. However service and Rose came to conclusion freezes were caused by another connected device. Problem is my streamer was only connected to router and amplifier. So maybe your router OR amplifier caused malfunction?

If Rose gives that kind of answer that the problem may be related to how it is connected (only connected to preamp and Ethernet) I will find another vendor.

I will call Crutchfield today and get a return authorization. Will probably stay away from Rose products since mine didn’t work for even a day. Very poor quality control!

Sad to see nobody from HiFi Rose has commented on this thread. Says a lot about their support?

Hello,

Michal’s device will be replaced.

Also, I understand you’re frustrated. Which model did you purchase? Is it RS250?

Yes, it is the RS250.

Help!
New streamer has arrived. Unfotunately it is useless as it got stuck on FW update … 3 hrs and no progress!

Hey Michal

Sorry that this is ongoing. Once it works it is good i like it even tho iv had a bad experience with unit to.
Maybe you be able to do a manual firmware update.
Speak to Roseloa.
If you do a manual update you will have to unplug the ethernet, plug in usb and reboot device, should pick up the firmware file on the usb and do a ‘manual’ update.

Last night I decided to stop update after 10hrs and switched to my back up LTE router and bang! Update took some minutes to download! I have no idea what was wrong but I am happy bunny now! Rose was streaming all day long without any problems.

Your router appears to be the culprit for many of your issues. Not out of the realm of possibilities. I have seen it before. Maybe try another router to confirm. If problems go away then bang it was your previous router. Just a thought. I have had hardware issues in the past that were due to router incapabilities. Just a thought, regardless glad your Rose is working as expected now.

This is Asus AC86 + AC56 connected as mesh. Never had any issues no matter how many clients were connected. If anything i would blame it on my mediocre land line internet connection. It is OK even for Netflix 4K or YT streaming yet LTE is much faster (60 - 200 Mbps) and I plan the switch once my contract ends.
