RS250 versus RS150

Hello Hifirose,

This is Michael from Germany.
I’m also highly interested in the beautiful RS250.

I have a few questions:
1: will the RS250 also be available in black?
2: what are the main differences between the RS250 and RS150? The price for the RS150 is almost twice as high here in Germany. ;-((
3: What Audio connection would you recommend for best listening via an AVR? (RS250/RS150 → DENON AVR 3313 → B&W 702s2)

Thanks in advance and best regards,
Michael

Let’s start with your AVR. This model is 10 yo. I do not thing it is any match to Rose products. Feels like putting modern engine into an old car. You will not be able to take full advantage or Rose’s devine sound whatsoever.

Only you can tell either you can hear the difference in sound between those 2 models, prefferably taking them for tests in your home.

Your AVR does not have XLR inputs so the only method to connect them is via RCA cable. In this case it may not make sense to pay for 150.

Hi Michal,

First of all thank you very much for your answer and your comments.

My first upgrade of my system was initially better speakers, this improvement was the first big step that you can clearly hear.
I’ve already looked around for a successor to my Denon AVR, but the choice is simply limited because I still want to use surround sound for home cinema and music in surround sound AND 2 channel. Actually, only the Rotel RAP-1580 MK II would come into question, but I don’t really like the look of it. Then I had the NAD T778 in mind, but I read about problems with Dirac and the loud fan.
I also don’t think a Marantz really sounds that much better than my Denon.
Maybe you have a good recommendation for a more suitable AVR?

Since the RS150 also has a very good DAC installed, I would assume that you should also hear a noticeable improvement in the Denon’s direct mode (Pure Stereo), for example. On the other hand, I can’t judge how much “worse” the RS250 would sound, but of course I like the look of the RS150 even better, because of the larger dimensions…
(Please excuse my long post)

If you are happy with your AVR consider buying separate stereo amp for front speakers. Any decent amp, be it used or new, will sound better in stereo mode allowing you to fully appreciate your Rose.
Just make sure it has HT direct mode so you can control volume by AVR while watching movies.

Got the Marantz sr7013 with rose rs250 on Alchemy transmission line speakers-
Absolutely loving the sound - stereo for music - I’ve also got a Sony hmk-70 record deck going into the rose .
Fantastic sound on rs 250
Sometimes it’s all about the speakers , large room say 3m x4 then floorstanders for me any smaller- bookshelf speakers.
Unless you have a really good set up I think the rs 250 as mentioned before Is a great bet
I went with transmission line Speakers because the base is smooth and tight and they have ribbon tweeters .
