RS451 crashed on Spotify and nearly destroyed my speakers

Hi there,

I tried Spotify Connect on my new RS451. After 10 secs, the RS451 rebooted, restarted, and played some song at 100% volume, which blew the full 900 watts (!) into each speaker. Which they are not made for. Thanks Hifi Rose for risking my equipment. Thanks McIntosh for auto shuttdown.

Besides this critical issue, I just figured out that Spotify Connect on the RS451 does not let me select lossles, so only “super high” is available (or lower rates).

Last but not least: I can play Spotify Connect from my phone, I can open the webpage (http://ip_of_RS451:8080) on my phone, but both Rose Connect Premium and Rose Connect One apps are not able to find the RS451. So Spotify lossy is the only option.

Talking about the Apps: they request access to my photos, videos, and music files on my phone every time I start or reopen the app. Questionable, why the apps must have access to my private photos. For a dia show, the screen seems a bit small. TV is not connected.

So over all: no Tidal Connect, unstable software, crashes, no safeguards after reboot, apps are not able to find the device, low quality streaming, UX is a nightmare → sadly, that thing is going back to the shop.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Please check the following:

  1. When you use Spotify Connect by linking your mobile phone with the RS451, does the volume reset to 100% every time the RS451 reboots?

When connecting the RS451 and your phone via Spotify, the volume can be adjusted from both the phone and the RS451.
However, when adjusting the volume from the phone, the RS451 volume increases in steps of four levels.

We do not support Spotify lossless audio.
Spotify has recently announced Spotify Lossless (sometimes referred to as HiFi), but as of now this feature is only available on a limited rollout and is not yet supported through Spotify Connect on third-party devices, including HiFi Rose.
In other words, the limitation is on Spotify’s side rather than the Rose device itself.

Hi ROSEHAN,

I will try to replicate the issue, but this may take some time, since I do not expect the device to predictably fail when using spotify connect, and I have to set up a test environment (for now I will not use my amps and speakers to test).

Other question: when using Spotify or Tidal with the Rose Connect apps, is it then capable of playing lossless?

The RoseConnect app does not support Spotify.
Spotify can only be used by connecting your mobile device to the Rose device via Spotify Connect.

TIDAL is supported through the RoseConnect app, and all content is available at the highest quality.
