RS520 amplifier-DAC/Streamer

Hi-I have been using the RS250 for about a year now and pretty pleased with its versatility. It has mainly served as a DAC/streamer. I was curious if the rs250 can been used as an amplifier/dac/streamer hooked into another preamp? this possible, if so, how?

Hi,
First the RS250 doesn’t have an amplifier (notice no speaker posts) so you can’t use it as an amplifier.

You can plug the RS250 into a pre-amp using the Analog out. Or you could also use the toslink out as well to a pre-amp. You could connect it to an amp that uses RCA in … but there may be issues depending on the amp.

meant 520-my bad. typo

On the back, you do have a preamp output to connect to external amp, but IMO you could use optical out for external preamp.

I have preamp on back but believe it is to use the devise only as a pre with separate amp. I am looking to use the units built in amp.

Depends on the output voltage of your preamp. If you can fix the output you can possibly use the line level input on the 520 as a preamp in. Why do you want to do this? What components do you have connected to your current preamp? If it is the phono you are thinking about you can buy a phono preamp and connect its output to the line level input of the 520. Most other components are digital and it looks like the 520 has plenty of digital inputs.

I have a preamp with excellent phono MC I wanted to take advantage of. This is temporary as I have another amp coming in soon. I have only used the Rose as a dac/streamer. Maybe once used as an integrated.
