RS520 - are TV's with ARC hdmi compatible with the Rose RS520?

My current Panasonic TV (TX-50CX802B) has got only ARC hdmi not an eArc like on the Rose.
Because of the lack of eARC hdmi input on my TV, I’m using the OPTICAL (Toss Link) for the sound from my TV into the RS520 (OPTICAL IN).

  1. is ARC not compatible with the Rose RS520? Do I need to upgrade my TV to one with eARC?
  2. I’m currently using “OPTICAL in” input on the RS520 but there is a sound / video delay which is really annoying and some crackling noise occur (randomly and they’ve never been noticeable before with my NAD M10).

I’ve tried all diff. options on the TV (under Sound and HDMI settings) but I cannot make the sound to change from TV to HomeCinema (this is the setting to enable the ARC - which my NAD worked perfectly with).
The sound is set to PCM and, when trying to change from TV to Home Cinema I get the message “Please check settings and connections on HDMI devices”.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

eARC presents some improvements compared to HDMI ARC, such as greater bandwidth and transmission speed therefore if eARC is used a dedicated and more performing cable must be used in order to fully exploit the performances offered by this technology.

I have similar problems on a TV with eARC (Samsung QE75QN95B). Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Please note that these problems may come from the TV itself, not only from the RS520.

  1. Make shure that you use a CEC compatible HDMI Cable (HDMI 2.0+)
  2. Some HDMI sources can block CEC communication, remove all other HDMI sources form your TV and try again.
  3. My RS520 needs about 10 to 20 seconds before the Link is etablished.
  4. On the RS520: select an other input, wait a few seconds and then go back to HDMI
  5. Sometimes only rebooting the RS520 helps

Hope this helps…

Thank you, I tried what you suggested, thanks. Unfortunately no change, I’ve uploaded a few pics…main one being the one with “Please check settings and connections on HDMI devices”

Good morning,
I just want to say THANK YOU!

I managed last night to make it work all evening, after I followed your advice, thanks for that.
Unfortunately, this morning is back to where it was.

Steps I followed:

  1. I unplugged my Panasonic TV from the mains.
  2. I turned off the Hifi Rose RS520.
  3. I disconnected all HDMI cables from the TV.
  4. I disconnected the HDMI input on RS520.
  5. I left it for a while like that (TBH…longer than an hour because I was busy and forgot about it :-)).
  6. I turned ON RS520, plugged in the HDMI cable and I selected eARC input.
  7. I turned ON the TV, only plugged in the HDMI cable in the ARC input then change the Sound setting on the TV from TV to Home Cinema.
  8. I could see straight away that the volume on the RS520 is being controlled by the TV remote (a good sign) and then a couple of seconds later, the sound was working on RS520 via eARC input.

This morning, I went back and started the TV, the input on RS520 is still eARC but there is no sound, back to basis…
I checked the TV sound setting and is back to TV (from Home Cinema) and the same message as before is displayed - "Please check settings and connections on HDMI devices”.

I unplugged again just now, the TV and removed the hdmi cables from it. 5 mins later it works. Turned the TV off, started it again, the ARC connection works but there is no sound from RS520. I’m going to give up…not sure what to do, TBH. Very annoying…the fact that it all worked perfectly well with my NAD M10 (it will even wake up the TV and start the sound on NAD)…

I just wanted to let you know as I was so happy last night that it worked but it seems a very unstable work around not a fix, in my case.
My question it’s still there: would a new TV with eARC fix this issue? Who should I contact from ROSE to give me a clear answer, this is a very basic functionality. I spent a fortune on this amp and it hurts to know that it cannot do a basic task which all my older, and 10 times cheaper amps would easily do.

Thank you very much,
Florin

Good news for you!

Regarding a new TV: I have one of the newest Samsung’s with eARC (QE75QN95B) and it’s not stable either.

My daily ritual goes as follows:

  1. Turn on the TV
  2. Turn on the RS520
  3. Play something on the TV (there must be a audio stream, otherwise the TV falls back to TV Speakers)
  4. Select eARC HDMI on the RS520
  5. Wait up to 20 seconds
  6. If there is Sound from the RS520, good…
  7. If not then select any other source on the RS520
  8. Wait a few seconds
  9. repeat step 4 a few times
  10. Reboot the RS520

I have learned that Rose has a very high standard of quality. I’m shure Rose will sort this out in one of the next releases…

Good luck,
Stefan

Mersi, Stefan.

Is there another way we can feed all these issues back to Rose? Are they aware of this?

Regards,
Florin

Just letting you know, your steps are not working for me, different TV I guess…
Currently, I’m not even getting sound from the OPTICAL input.

I switched off everything as I’m out of ideas and it irritates me big time.

I’ll let you know if some “magic” happens over the next few days.

Being an engineer myself, I know how vain they are. I’m sure Rose is reading this

Tried it with a SONY XR-77A80K, same problem. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Yes, i also switched cables, wife and friends. Still not happy with the RS520. Rose, i’m shure you are reading this…

@DigiFennek, thanks for sharing this.
I’ve tried it as well with a 2022 model Sony and with a Samsung as well (as I was going to replace my current Panasonic TV, good that I didn’t). Same story, even worse, I couldn’t get the Sony to work at all, while the Samsung was behaving like my Panasonic.
In the meantime, I discovered a few “new” issues which I didn’t have before with my NAD M10.
-crackling sounds (random, but every now and then) in one of the PMC speakers, only when the TV is connected via e-ARC. No issues if I use the RS520 alone.
-if I don’t disconnect the TV’s HDMI cables after I turned off the TV, next time I turn ON TV , the sound won’t work even via OPTICAL input on RS520. This was not an issue a week ago…

Very annoying, I wish I knew about all these issues…and like you said: not even a “comment” from Rose.

Regards,

Bonjour j’ai le même problème avec ARC et je me suis branchée en optique ! Mais depuis hier j’ai des claquements sur les haut parleur aussi

Hello, I have the same problem with ARC and I connected to optics! But since yesterday I’ve had clicks on the speakers too

It’s getting worse every day. Now i can’t get an connection even after many retries. Factory Reset did not help either. To me it looks like the hardware is dying. I’m not asking for better usability, just for basic functionality.

Edit, four hours later: If the RS520 was running for some time it seems to work much better. Now i can switch between HDMI-Arc and other inputs and audio is coming back quite fast. Maybe some thermal issue?

Hello,

First of all, I sincerely apologize about the issue with TV connection.
We are testing the issues that you’ve mentioned and found similar issue…

  • RS520 is on eARC INPUT mode
  • TV is OFF (tested with Samsung TV)
  • Turn on TV
  • TV’s output is changed from ARC to HDMI by itself, which makes no sound

We will keep on test and fix the issues that you’ve mentioned as well.

Once again, I’m sorry about the issues.

Best Regards,

Hello Rose, any news on this?

Switching eARC from “Auto” to “Off” on my TV (Samsung QE75QN95B) makes a huge difference. Now it works like a charm.

I understand that eARC gives higher sampling rates, but for now i’m ok with that solution.

Hello everyone,
HDMI-eARC Mode on RS520 it’s been stable for a while and the TV was even turning ON & OFF the RS520 unit.

I just realized that this is only working if you never switch through the sources. For instance, TV is ON, RS520 input is set on eARC - if I want to listen to music: a) from the built in hdd, or from Spotify, the sound from eARC works 1 out of 10 times, when I go back to select eARC IN on the HiFi Rose. The TV sound setting it is still showing - Home Cinema (as it should) but no sound coming from RS520 into the speakers. Sometimes the sounds starts after 10 seconds, most of the times it doesn’t come back and I have to reseat again the HDMI inputs on the TV (unplug tv, unplug hdmi’s, plug tv after 10 mins, plug-in hdmi - ARC, then start RS520, go to eARC - it works. Only then, you plug-in the other hdmi’s. Very long and annoying process.

I have not changed anything on my set up, the only change I’ve made was to listen to music from a different source (Spotify)… If you do that, then you lose all the hdmi settings, also the TV remote is not turning on or off the RS520 anymore. Shame as this is not stable, I’m thinking again to change the TV but is this worth it? Is a new TV going to make a difference?

The last photo is showing the Remote volume increasing but no sound.
