RS520 connection advice

Hello, I just added a RS520 to my system and have been using a RS-250 connected to my Parasound HINT-6 before. I have that connected to a set of KEF R11Metas and a KF-92 Sub. In addition, I am using a turntable.

My question is would it be ok to connect it to the HINT-6 via the Pre-Out and this way I can use the remaining parts of the system without having to worry about changes to connect them to? Or is there a way to salvage the outputs in the RS520 and use the HINT-6 elsewhere for another setup?

I have to say when I connected the R11’s directly to the RS520 it was really punchy and I believe it’s due to the extra power the RS520 has.

Any suggestions or comments welcome :pray:t4:

I’m sorry but I’m a bit confused.
The RS520 is a complete system… just add your speakers.

You would use your line out to the sub woofer.

Then you can use the RS250 and Parasound for another system.

The punchier sound could be because of the Power but also the RS520 is a GaN amp while your Parasound is a Class A/B amp.

I am using the RS250 with the LS50 WII already in another room. I also have the turntable so will the 520 play nicely with it if I just use it? Just trying to make sure the connections are ideal for each.

Thank you for feedback.

Robert

I don’t know about turntable since the RS520 doesn’t have a phono in.

Not sure about the KEF speakers either.
They are active speakers so I think maybe the USB connection will work?
I don’t have them so I can’t test it out.
Seems kinda counter productive though since the RS520 is an AIO so it has an amplifier which you’re not using when pairing w active speakers

I am using the 520 with the KEF R11 which are passive floor standing towers. I think the main reason is I can’t connect everything to the 520 which I wish had more connections, so I may end up using the Turntable in another set up but I do like the bright punch the 520 gives me. I am going to explore I guess.

Thanks again. Robert

rayray57,

It looks like the 520 has one set of line level inputs. If you want to use those for your turntable, there are many affordable good quality phono preamps on the market.

You mentioned the LS50 which are powered.

Yes the R11s are nice speakers.
And yes, it has a limited number of inputs.

What do you have as input into the RS520?

For me… I’m using my MB20 as a way of getting BT5.0 in via the toslink rather than use the RS520’s 4.2BT.

And you still do not realize that it is no more lossless than 4.2.

It can be Boris… it depends on the BT capabilities of both…
I suggest you actually learn a bit more by BT and why they are different.

Do you even know how audio is sent over BT?

Please list all lossless Bluetooth Audio codecs.

  1. Connecting RS520 with the HINT-6
Yes, you can connect the RS520 to the HINT-6 using the HINT-6’s Pre-Out.
This allows you to keep using your turntable, subwoofer, and other parts of the system without rearranging anything.

  2. Using RS520 as the main amplifier
You can also use the RS520 by itself to drive your KEF R11 Meta speakers and move the HINT-6 to another setup if you prefer.
The RS520 has a very powerful built-in amplifier, which is why the R11s sounded punchier when connected directly.

Thanks all for feedback and info. So it seems that I am not able to connect the sub and the turntable to the 520.

In with it had one more input and this would help me to just use the 520 and build another system but I guess I could use the Parasound in a different setup it will need another room lol. :joy: I also have KEF R3 speakers I could use with the Parasound and just the turntable.

I guess it’s better to have options than none.

Cheers :clinking_glasses:

@rayray57

I’m sorry, but now I’m confused.

Your phono uses the RCA line in …
Your sub uses RCA line out so you can use the phono and then 1 or 2 subs.

Or go w a REL and skip the RCAs.

You have one pair of RCA in and one pair of RCA out.

Is it really suitable for Phono in? Or is it that other amps label it so? Just asking as I have not spent much time researching the options been travelling a lot so not dedicating time as I need to to really get this new device dialed in.

Thanks and sorry for lots of questions or ignorance.

As I mentioned above, you will need a phono preamp to boost the signal to line level. There are lots out there. The connection is as follows: Phono → Phono Preamp → RS 520 line level input.

Look up brands such as Pro-Ject, Rega, Schiit and MoFi among others and you will find plenty. The only limiting factor is your budget.

@Ray Ray…

Eleven is right.

I haven’t done vinyl in over 30 years… so I have no clue since my amp back then did have a phono in.
