Just bought an RS520, and would like to try using an external DAC and running the DAC’s RCA output back into the RS520 (much like a tape monitor loop) in order to take advantage of the GaN FET amplifier section. Since the RS520 preamp is all digitally controlled, is this possible?

RS520 cannot output digital and analog simultaneously.
Thank you for replying. Is there discussion on making this request possible via a firmware update? While I appreciate the quality of the ESS9038 DAC chip, onboard DAC’s just don’t match a quality off board unit.

We’ll have to check to see if your request will be modified in firmware, but I think we’ll keep it as is. Currently, we are prioritizing device stabilization, so there will be no additional features for the time being.
I very much appreciate your continued engagement with me on this topic. I do recognize the importance of stabilization, though I have not run into any such issue with the RS520.
Since you already have the USB out for an external DAC, the only step you need is to activate the Line In while disengaging the internal DAC when the Line In is activated in the panel.
