RS520 - OPTICAL input is causing delays

• Panasonic TV (TX-50CX802B) with HDMI ARC (not eARC)
• HiFi Rose RS520

I cannot use the hdmi - ARC connection from TV to RS520 as the message “Please check HDMI cable” pops up on the TV screen. However, I’ve been able to use the ARC hdmi (with my NAD M10) until 2 days ago.

Therefore, my only option to output the sound from TV is to use the Toss Link cable from tv to RS520 (and select OPT input on RS520)
There is now a very annoying sound delay.

  1. Can you please advise how to fix this?
  2. Do I need to replace my 4 year old TV for a newer model with an eARC connection?

Thank you very much.

Hello
with the optical connection you have to turn the sound on the tv all the way to zero unless your tv does it by itself if you have selected optical in the menu
some tvs still run on their own speakers and that’s why the sound distortions come about
I’ll try that with the HDMI and get back to you

so just tested
on the tv on hdmi arc and on the rose 520 on arc hdmi in
sound comes immediately over the rose
maybe you can reset the hdmi input on the tv
I was also able to control the volume with the remote control from the tv (samsung).
greetings joerg

Many thanks for your fast reply.

I will check, but I’m pretty sure I tried resetting the HDMI input on the TV. Also, I’ll do a factory reset on the TV settings.

Thank you,

I’ll get back to you shortly.

This is what I did:

  1. I’ve re-seted the hdmi cables, change the hdmi cables twice (last one brand new)
  2. I’ve re-seted the TV then unplugged / re-plugged the HDMI at both ends (TV & Rose)
  3. Then I did a Factory Reset on the Panasonic TV

The sound setting on the TV is set to PCM and when I try to change the sound setting from TV to Home Cinema (this is the ARC) I get the same message as before “Please check settings and connections on HDMI devices”.

Thank you.

have you tried it on tv?

HDMI Auto Setting

Set to Mode1 when the image in HDMI input is not displayed properly.

(Mode1 / Mode2)

Watching > 4K resolution > HDMI Auto Setting

For HDMI

Yes, I have changed the HDMI 2 (this is the ARC) to Mode 1 and no difference.
My neighbour has a Sony TV with eARC connection, tempted to try it on his, but eARC will work…

It is very odd and I’m running out of ideas.
Thank you.

if you have connected the hdmi cable to the rose and connected it to the tv, does the rose show this in the display?
that’s next to the letter icon

It doesn’t, no. I have to manually select the hdmi input on the Rose (eARC IN).

OK
but he shows you then also when you have chosen the source

mmmhh
that’s hard to tell from a distance
sorry

Thank you for trying to help.

I just replaced all HDMI cables now with High Speed hdmi cables, no change. reseted again each hdmi input and TV again - factory reset.
The Rose is not seeing the ARC cable.
Also, I didn’t want to mention (thought is not relevant, I still believe is something else) but sometimes when I switch from a tv channel to another there is a funny static noise in the speakers (same noise as when you tune your radio) and just now it did it again without touching the TV remote. Out of the blue.

I totally understand you cannot help me any further and tomorrow I will test with a TV with eARC connection.
If that works, then it’s a fact that the RS520 is not compatible with Panasonic TX-50CX802B ARC connection.

Thank you.

y samsung also has no e arc only arc and it works

you can tell me what happened to your experiment with e arc

Greetings from Germany

I’ve also tested with a Samsung TV which has only ARC hdmi and same issue as with my Panasonic. The ARC hdmi doesn’t allow the sound to get through.

Tonight I will take to the neighbour which has a SONY TV with eARC connection.

Regards,

I managed last night to make it work all evening, thanks to your advice.
Unfortunately, this morning is back to where it was.

Steps I followed:

  1. I unplugged my Panasonic TV from the mains.
  2. I turned off the Hifi Rose RS520.
  3. I disconnected all HDMI cables from the TV.
  4. I disconnected the HDMI input on RS520.
  5. I left it for a while like that (TBH…longer than an hour because I was busy and forgot about it :-)).
  6. I turned ON RS520, plugged in the HDMI cable and I selected eARC input.
  7. I turned ON the TV, only plugged in the HDMI cable in the ARC input then change the Sound setting on the TV from TV to Home Cinema.
  8. I could see straight away that the volume on the RS520 is being controlled by the TV remote (a good sign) and then a couple of seconds later, the sound was working on RS520 via eARC input.

This morning, I went back and started the TV, the input on RS520 is still eARC but there is no sound, back to basics…
I checked the TV sound setting and is back to TV (from Home Cinema) and the same message as before is displayed - "Please check settings and connections on HDMI devices”.

I unplugged again just now, the TV and removed the HDMI cables from it. 5 mins later it works. Turned the TV off, started it again, the ARC connection works but there is no sound from RS520. I’m going to give up…not sure what to do, TBH. Very annoying…the fact that it all worked perfectly well with my NAD M10 (it will even wake up the TV and start the sound on NAD)…

I just wanted to let you know as I was so happy last night that it worked but it seems a very unstable work around not a fix, in my case.
My question it’s still there: would a new TV with eARC fix this issue? Who should I contact from ROSE to give me a clear answer, this is a very basic functionality.
I spent a fortune on this amp and it hurts to know that it cannot do a basic task which all my older, and 10 times cheaper amps would easily do.

Thank you very much,
Florin

I agree with you it’s completely unacceptable to pay dearly for something that doesn’t work… I have the same problem as you with an Oled lg TV that is 2 years old
