RS520 - Popping and crackling noise from the right channel

My 10 days old RS520 is making a popping (crackling) noise on the right channel. It starts after 2-3 mins after is being turned ON, regardless on the input source (Radio, Spotify…etc).
Below is what I tried so far:

  1. Turned off the RS520.
  2. Ensured the speaker wires are properly connected to both the speakers and stereo receiver.
  3. Tried a different input/source.
  4. Turned off any nearby electronic devices that may be interfering with the speaker sound.
  5. I replaced the power cable, the speaker wires and I connected a different set of speakers. Issue is not resolved.
  6. Moved the speaker wires away from any electrical cords.
  7. I swapped the speakers around then I tried with a different set of speakers.
    The issue is still unresolved
  8. I then: reset the receiver to the factory default settings, plugged in the RS520 in the garden’s Summer House which is on a different power circuit, same issue - the right channel is making popping sounds.

I will call tomorrow the shop I purchased the unit from, but I wanted to find out if anyone can recommend anything else? Thank you.

Hi,
my 520 was returned for service or replacement for almost same problem - only mine was the left channel. Tried everything but still loud cracks and bangs.
Mine was returned over a month ago - luckily good service from dealer, they lent me a Cambridge Evo 150.

Hi. My Rose rs 520 have the Same Problem since Yesterday. But in the left Channel. Both via the Output top the speakers and the preamp Output to the Headphone amplifier. The device ist only 6 weeks old. What can I do?
Chris

return. (at least 20 chars…)

How is the Evo compared to the 520? It was my first choice until the 520 appeared.

It sounds good, but a little weaker. Screen design is bad, and no touchscreen. Very nice inputs, also phono pre-amp and dual speaker-sets. Miss my 520…

I returned to the shop my RS520 and the fault didn’t occur straight away but did eventually start happening, a crackle on the right channel.

They’ve sent it back to be checked over/repaired and I was told they will let me know once they have an update from the repair shop.

Any idea how long these investigations/repairs can normally take?

It is very annoying to wait (for who knows how long…) for a faulty unit to be “repaired” after only a week of use. I expected the unit to be replaced right away with a new one, is that not the case from your experience?

RS520 - faulty right channel
It’s been 9 days since the shop have received the faulty RS520 and have admitted the crackle on the right channel.

As no one from the shop has followed up ever since, I’ve asked for an update: first time - 5 days ago and again, this afternoon. Not a straight answer: “we will get back to you asap”.

The RS520 was purchased on 30th Dec 2022 and I have not been able to enjoy it but just for a couple of days.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Appreciate any advice, thanks.

Hi,
I got a message that I will receive a brand new unit on Monday.
Its been 1,5 months now.

I had confirmation from the shop, yesterday, that an advanced replacement unit is going to be sent out to them, and I will be getting a brand new replacement unit soon.
I’ll keep you updated, very keen to receive the RS520 asap.

Thanks to Rose HiFi and Henley Audio, last night I received a brand new replacement unit (RS520).
I’m happy.

I’ll be “over the moon” when the “hdmi issue” will be sorted out. I really hope Rose HiFi can fix it with the new software release or so.

What HDMI-issue? Please explain.

These are the steps I need to follow on a daily basis to get the HDMI working:

  1. Unplugged my Panasonic TV from the mains.

  2. Turned off Hifi Rose RS520.

  3. Disconnected all HDMI cables from the TV.

  4. Unplug the HDMI cable from RS520.

  5. Turn RS520 on, plug in the HDMI cable and select eARC input.

  6. Turn TV on, plug in first the HDMI cable in the ARC Tv input, then change the sound setting on the TV from TV to Home Cinema (PCM sound).

  7. You can see right away that the volume on the RS520 is being controlled by the TV remote and then a couple of seconds later, the sound is working on RS520 via eARC input.

All great, I don’t mind to do this once in a while, but can you do this on a daily basis or every time you turn on the TV? I doubt anyone can do it…

Unless you perform all the steps which I listed above, the TV goes back “to basis” it goes back to TV sound (from Home Cinema) and this message is displayed - "Please check settings and connections on HDMI devices”.

Very annoying…the fact that it all worked perfectly well with my NAD M10, which will even wake the TV up, turn it on and start the sound on the NAD.

Questions:

  1. would a new TV with an eARC fix this issue?

  2. Not sure as I tried with a Sony and a Samsung tv’s and it made no difference

  3. Would HiFi Rose fix this issue with the next firmware update?

  4. If they would, I don’t mind at all to wait

I’m currently using the OPTICAL-in input on the RS520 but there is a sound delay, very annoying…not an alternative, but it is what it is for now.

@FM2012

I have a few things to check .

  1. When the TV is turned on after turning off the TV (RS520 is also off) with the TV remote control under normal sound output, does the RS520 not turn on together and does not turn on even when the RS520 is turned on?
  2. May I know the SW/FW/MCU version of the RS520 you are using?
  3. How much difference does sync make when using OPT-In?
  4. Is it out of sync from the start? Or does it not come out after a certain amount of time?

Thank you

Good afternoon,

I’m not sure what happened but yesterday I followed the usual daily steps: turn tv off, unplug all HDMI’s, plug back the TV, hdmi-in from the Rose, switch tv’s sound to Home Cinema…etc.

:clap::clap: Everything worked as expected. My surprise was when I turned off the TV, the Rose switched off, as well; this is a function that I’ve never seen working before. I was happy like a child: turned the TV on - the RS520 came on, as well. Off again and it went off…I couldn’t believe it, I was that pleased with it.

Not sure what happened but whatever you did, it works; really, really pleased with it, a very happy customer!!!

Thank you very much!
