RS520 Powering down after a few minutes

Hi,
On the latest OS and Rose One app versions.

Right now Playing from my Mac to the RS521 via USB B connection.
While in the middle of a YouTube video, Rose powers off and sound goes back to speakers.
This has been happening a couple of times today.

Switching to optical in (I have my MB20 connected and using BT from Mac to MB20 then to optical.

Will see if the problem persists.

@Smegel

Hello,

We apologize for the inconvenience.
Please help us check a few things:

  1. When playing from your Mac to the RS520 via USB, does the RS520 always power off after a certain amount of time, or does it happen randomly?
  2. When connecting your Mac to the RS520 via USB, does the same issue occur if you use a different USB cable?
  3. Is the Sleep Timer or Automatic Standby Mode enabled on your RS520?
    Please check the videos below. Is the following function activated?

  4. When using the RS520 without connecting it to your Mac, does the RS520 still power off?

Hi, thanks for the quick response.

I only have one USB-C (2.0) to USB-A cord.

I’ve been playing via BT (Macbook → MB20 → RS520) without an issue. Or airplay, or Spotify connect.
So far it only seems to be using the USB-B (2.0) connector.

So I only noticed it on the USB cable.

I haven’t timed the periods yet… will try that tomorrow.
I’ll also see if I can dig up a USB cable and try the USB-A port. (USB-C cable w USB-A adapter.)

I will also double check that there is no automatic timer set. (I did check and it wasn’t on.)

Also using Connect one… can also try via front panel directly.

Thx

@Smegel

Please connect the USB-B port (PC AUDIO) on the rear of the RS520 to the USB-A port on your Mac using a USB cable (not USB-C).

With this setup, the connection should work without any issues.

Please check and let me know the results.

Hi,
This is what I am currently testing.

Its a USB-B (2.0) which only comes with a USB-A connection.
I am plugging it into a docking station.

I will test it directly to the macbook using a USB-A to USB-C adapter to rule out the docking station.

I haven’t tried the USB-A ports… I’m not even sure that it would work as inputs. Since you can only select them as an output… But wanted to rule them out.

I agree that this behavior is not correct and need to determine its root cause.

Thx

-Mike

@ROSEHAN

Just to follow up…
Since I’ve rebooted, No issues so far.
I am starting to suspect that the RS520 becomes unstable if you don’t power cycle it ever so often and leave it on and go into standby mode instead.

I’ve run with both Rose One open and closed on the PC.
I do notice that the volume control in Rose One is off and doesn’t change when you change the volume.
I’d say switch over to where you have a better event handler where the RS520 will push events rather than have the app pull/poll for events. (Your developers should understand what I mean.) Its a shift and would require some refactoring under the covers.

Now you can only do something about Boris… :wink:

@Smegel

Thank you for your detailed feedback and for taking the time to test various scenarios.

We understand your observations regarding the USB-B connection, docking station usage, and the stability after reboot. Your suspicion about the unit becoming unstable after long standby periods is also noted, and we will share this with our software team for further investigation.

Regarding the volume synchronization issue in Rose One, we also understand your point about the current behavior. We will forward your feedback, including your suggestion about event handling (push vs. polling), to our development team for review.

For now, we recommend continuing to use a direct connection (without a docking station) for testing, as you mentioned, to rule out any external factors.

We truly appreciate your technical insight and detailed explanation. It is very helpful for improving the product.
