RS720 USB doesnt work at all

Hi,

  1. My DAC Denafrips Terminator Plus, direct via USB or the same with a Denafrips DDC USB in and then via I2s out to the DAC
  2. The USB-Stick is recognized by USB3.0, RSA 780 is recognized when connecting to USB2.0. Ripping is possible, songs do not play at all (next track and finally it stops).
  3. DAC is recognized in very rare cases (three times in a week), on one of the ports of the USB2.0
  4. If the DAC is connected (which happens very rarely, once out of ten attempts), the songs do not play (I use Roon and tracks from the SSD, which i build inside the RS130). There is a cover and the name of the track but there is no title playing sounds and after one second it stops.

Hello @ROSEHAN

Thanks for the response and of coz thanks for HiFi Rose team who brings the very beautiful products - RSA720 which indeed boost the sound quality of USB tranmission that beyond our imagination! Below my feedback on your questions:

  1. Weiss DAC501 MKII (BTW, you may check with the Hong Kong distributor - Squarewave of their feedback who distributes both Hi Fi Rose and Weiss products and I know they sometimes demo the RS130 + RSA720 with Weiss DAC)
  2. Thats very interesting, when I connect my USB drive to RSA720, the RS130 cannot recognize it. However, when I power-on my DAC and when my RS130 could recognize it, the USB drive will be recognized at the same time… so the condition is, it need the RS130 recognize the DAC thr RSA720, then the USB ports of RSA720 will back to normal…
  3. switch USB ports of RSA720 for the connection of DAC may work for RS130 to recognize the DAC…
  4. This is quite unpredictable… the behaviour is, I power on the RS130 first (RSA720 is always power on), then start power on the DAC after the RS130 entering the GUI. However, I find there are 4 different situations…
    a) If lucky enough, I can get my RS130 recognize the DAC in the first shot…
    b) If I am not lucky enough, I have to reboot my DAC at least one to get my RS130 recognize the DAC
    c) I got bad luck, I have to reboot my DAC several time to get my RS130 recognize the DAC
    d) If it still doesn’t work after c), I have to power-off RS130/RSA720/DAC and reboot all of them and reperform a) or b) or c) to make it work, but too hard…

Hope this help!

Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE. DAC is never recognized by RS130 when using the RSA720, I never got it to work. I tried every configuration. RS130 never saw my DAC regardless of which USB2.0 port I used.

My DAC is Weiss 204, one of the USB2.0 is recognized, the second one is never recognized. USB3.0 is recognized (HDD connection).

Dear Hi-Fi Rose users

We are distributing new firmware by fixing two issues related to RSA720.
This new firmware only applies to users using RSA720.
If you want the RSA720 update file, please send an email to the email address below.
Also, when sending an email, please include your active nickname in the Hi-Fi Rose community.
eunseong96@citech.kr

We will also organize and deliver update files and update methods.
The update method is very complicated, so please follow the instructions carefully and if it doesn’t work, please email me.

If the update is completed properly, please let us know if the symptom persists afterward.
If it has been resolved, please let me know if it has been resolved.

Thank you

There is an error, we received either by email or by Google Drive the original firmware 82.00.42.00 and not 92.00.42.00 as described in the Excel instructions?
ccc
I respected the process and the firmware remains in this version.

Dear Rose users

Currently, we have not received an accurate response from the person in charge due to work related to update distribution.

After the update was released, they decided to check and send me a response.
Sorry for the late reply.

@ROSEHAN have you get the response yet? thanks alot.

Regarding the Problem of the RSA 720 USB which does not work: I have received the information from a Dealer, that they had two cases where one of the SFP modules have been brocken and then of course the RSA 720 did not work. Just my response to this topic and perhaps it helps to narrow down the problem.

HI, Any news on this problem with erratic recognition of DAC connected through USB 2.0 / RS720 connected to RS130 ?

Eventhough the Rose documentation is very confusing on the matter, I was ready to order one RS720 but my dealer said ‘NO ! the RS720 is an INPUT hub only’ !!!

So, is any one REALLY SUCCESSFULLY and ACTUALLY using RS720 to connect a DAC to his RS130 ???

How about this ‘complicated firmware upgrade procedure’ announced by ROSE almost ONE MONTH ago ?

@deckard : it looks like you are the only lucky one (sometimes) to be able to enjoy an SQ improvement by being able to connect your DAC to your RS130 by mean of your RS720 !

But if and when you are happy enough to succeed, is it stable thereafter ? in other words : as long as you leave everything powered on, do you keep this successfull connection - and keep enjoying the SQ improvement ? or do you have to go over the whole procedure again on an erratic basis ?

By the way, I guess the SQ improvement you noticed is compared to a regular USB connection ? Did you compare to a COAXIAL connection (which in my case is better) ?

Hello @Zaboks, I have given up to upgrade the firmware of RSA720 because the upgrade software just can’t recognize my RSA720 and I have reported to Hifi Rose @ROSEHAN almost month ago but no response so far… how disappointed it is and I have given up the idea to fix it “Perfectly” with the firmware update. TBH, I will definitely be very caution for any new HiFi Rose products in future…

Fortunately, my RSA720 seems become working stablely since the latest firmware upgrade of the RS130… with the trick that, I first power on the RS130 (the RSA720 is always power on) till it fully booted, then wait for few minutes, then power on the DAC. After the DAC is fully booted, the RS130 shall recognize my DAC in around 10 to 20 seconds, very funny huh…

Regard the SQ improvement, I compare to USB connection (include SFP for network connection too). Theoretically, the SFP shall give the cleanest signal path and the USB connection leverages async mode which potentially eliminate “not very good enough” clock issue resulting better SQ… (Just my own opinion!)

@deckard Thanks very much for your comments and advices. I wonder why ROSE is taking the risk to have its customers so frustrated with such a poor support, but anyway, I have convinced my dealer to buy one and try it by himself before I can commit myself… I wish ROSE staff will wake up though !

In the mean time, I thank you also for sharing your trick, which I hope will be useful for us as well : so please kindly confirm (question 1) that your DAC (question 2: which model please ?) is actually connected to one of the RSA720 USB 2.0 port, which in turn is connected to your RS130 with both SFP module and fiber provided by ROSE (question 3: may be it would work better with another brand ?) ?

@ZABOKS, my connection to DAC: RS130 >SFP>RSA720>USB2.0 (port1)>DAC. I simply use the stock SFP modules and fiber which came with the RSA720. My DAC is Weiss DAC501 MK2… The distributor here in HK connect to RSA720 with other Weiss DAC models as well.

@deckard Thank you so much ! You are now our reference and we must be able to duplicate your setting My MSB DAC is recognized immediately when connected to the RS130, hopefully it will be the same through the RS720 : it would be a first in France, since the distributor said it is not designed for this…

I am using the RSA720 between my Audio-GD R7HEMK3 (DAC) and the RS130 without issue. I have not applied the newest firmware to the RSA720 since all seems to be working okay. With that being said I have had plenty of technical issues with the Hifi Rose products but this is the rare occasion where I am not having an issue. Not sure this helps the conversation but I wanted to provide feedback like @deckard that there are setups working well with the RSA720. Happy to answer any questions I can to continue to help troubleshoot this for others.

@duffer5 : Thank you also for confirming this is simply possible… Surprising low support, but also, even more surprising, for such a low marketing !

On the user manual the announced SFP Hub (with no name) was supposed to work only with USB 3.0, but some clever tech. has introduced 2 x USB2.0 ports on the actual RS720 now on the market, and didn’t communicate it to the Sales & Marketing Dept… My 2 cents to explain the situation, hoping it might help a great product to become an even greater product !

Hi,I’m updated the firmware, my DAC Holo Audio May KTE is connected to RSA720. Before this firmware, the connection was impossible. Now my connection with DAC: RS130> SFP> RSA720> USB2.0 (Port2)> DAC, Port1 RSA780 CD-drive, Port USB-B<NAA< Mac Mini M2 Pro (HQPLAYER). Switch SFP/USB-B allows you to easily change the source of music. With the return switch, you need to overload RS130 so that it connects to the DAC again.

ZABOKS, what benefit do you hear from the RS720 to warrant the hassle of owning one.
I’m asking as someone who had one…couldnt get it to work and sent it back.

@Oleg77 Thanks also for confirming and sharing your settings : You are Number3 in my book now ! :grinning:

@paqua Like the other users, I’m willing to take advantage of this Hub to galvanically isolate my DAC from the streamer… Sorry that you were not lucky with yours ! :grimacing:
