RSA720 DAC Connection

@ROSELOA :smile:

I just received RSA720, I connected my DAC (Weiss) via USB cable connection to RSA 720 USB 2.0 port, then, from RSA720 SPF connecting to RS130 SPF. However, my RS130 won’t recognize the my DAC (RS 130 message: Weiss DAC is connected to RS130).

Did I connect everything correctly?

Thanks,

Ming

Do you have the slider on the RSA720 set to SFP or “type b.” It needs to be on SFP. You may want to press the reset button on the RSA720 if you are indeed on the correct setting of SFP.

Yes, it is on SFP.

When connect my DAC via USB to RS130, HDD connect to RSA 720, and SFP from RSA720 to RS130 SFP, works perfectly.

Hopefully @ROSELOA @ROSEHAN reply soon.

Yes.
I have 10TB of music in my HDD, as a HDD hub with SFP connection, RSA720 performs better than my third party HDD hub with SFP.

Therefore, it is a keeper even DAC function does not work.

I believe if I don’t use SFP, but use USB 3.0 from RSA720 to RS130, it will work. But there is no reason to do that. I don’t even want to try it.

It should work. Maybe it is defective. Or maybe the Weiss DAC has a conflict. Others have it working with a DAC connected and with SFP. The manual shows that it should work.

@Yu3319 Did Hifi Rose respond. Are you still having this issue?

Nobody contacted me and I still have the same issue.

Finally, I made one of the USB2.0 connections worked for the SFP. I believe that another one is not working no matter what usb cables I try.

At this moment, I am not sure if the SFP connection made any difference in sound as DAC to the RS720 Hub connection is still USB.

Which specific connection worked. The standard 2.0 (one of the two available) on the RSA720 or the USB B (printer mini) 3.0 also on the RSA 720.

One of the USB 2.0 worked. The second USB2.0 did not work no matter what I tried.

I believe that USB 2.0 will provide a better sound than USB 3.0 for DAC. I don’t bother to try USB 3.0

Now I have few hours of playing time with the RSA720 with SFP. It sounds definitely better for streaming, Rosetube sounds much better than before.

For HDD, I can not tell between my third party Hub with SFP and RSA 720.

@Yu3319 I just got my RS720 today. Had the same issue as you. I had to unplug the RSA720 each time I tried a new USB 2.0 port. That did the trick. Both work without issue. When I switch from one to the other I just unplug and replug and all is good. Just as an FYI.

Additional the sound quality over USB with RS720 is surprisingly good and compared to i2s I like it better. Who knew? The RSA720 somehow opens up the soundstage and increases the fidelity way beyond what I would have expected. I can’t explain why but the audio quality bump is well worth it.

@duffer5 :Thanks for the info.
Since one of the USB2.0 is working now. I have not tried the second USB2.0.

Yes, the sound quality is much better by using RSA720 SFP than direct USB3.0 connection, especially for Qobuz and Rosetube. No more popping or clicking sound when changing resolution or song.

Are you playing directly or with Roon?

Playing directly without roon

Good to hear. I am curious why the sound is so much better with the RSA720. You would think Hifi Rose would have included this accessory in the box if the improvement was that great.

I think that the improvement is due to SFP has better noise isolation than USB on RS130. RSA720 just a SFP pass through to DAC.

I guess that Next product Hifi Rose will make is a DAC with SFP direct input to complete SFP connections.
