I’ve contacted my local dealer and they contacted HFR and they had zero information to provide. Unreal that we haven’t seen a response for US customers.

If your system has no streamer at all, yeah, you may want the affordable RW800. But if your system already has a streamer like RS 150(B) or RS 151, why the heck would I need this?

For the moment, the best price I founded in Europe for RW800 is 125€ in Germany. I ordered one, waiting for the delivery. I don’t know if the price is better than a special offer from HiFi Rose dealer.

As a Qobuz user I was not aware that Tidal connect was not implemented in their flagship streamers. So instead of a firmware update they want us to buy new hardware?

Again and again: They can’t integrate the wished services like Tidal connect or Apple Music into the current Rose OS with the current hardware.
So they’ve decided to build a cheap addon, which you don’t must buy.
I’ve two RW800 (and ordered a third one), because sometimes I’m using chromecast for podcasts and such content.
For me the RW800 is really great device for this and is fully integrated into RoseOS in showing all metadata on the display and you can surely control it.

Suggested Title: Stop the Gigabit Nonsense with Streamers! Why 100 Mbps Is Way More Than Enough (and Gigabit Is Actually Worse)

Hey everyone,

I honestly have to facepalm sometimes when I read the absolute nonsense being spread around here regarding network speeds. People are being told that you absolutely need Gigabit LAN or a Gigabit port on your streamer for Hi-Res audio because 100 Mbps is supposedly a “bottleneck.” Please, look at the actual facts and do the math before believing this kind of garbage!

Let’s look at the actual data rates for Tidal, Qobuz, and the like, completely objectively:

  • CD Quality (16-bit / 44.1 kHz): Requires approx. 1.4 Mbps uncompressed.
  • Hi-Res Audio (24-bit / 96 kHz): Requires approx. 4.6 Mbps uncompressed.
  • Highest Hi-Res Tier (24-bit / 192 kHz): Requires approx. 9.2 Mbps uncompressed.

Since streaming services transmit this data using FLAC (lossless compression), we are talking about a real-world maximum of just 5 to 7 Megabits per second pushing through the line. A 100 Mbps port (Fast Ethernet) therefore provides more than 14 times the required capacity for even the most demanding stream.

Now, here is the crucial point that a lot of people completely miss:
Manufacturers don’t install 100 Mbps chips out of cheapness—they do it because they are better for audio! Gigabit network chips clock much higher and generate measurably more high-frequency electrical noise (EMI/RFI interference) and a higher noise floor inside the streamer. This interference can negatively impact the sensitive DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter). A 100 Mbps chip runs extremely quiet, stable, and keeps the audio signal clean. Gigabit on an audio streamer is not an advantage; it is a textbook technical disadvantage!

A Look at the Bigger Picture: Why do LG, Sony, and others only use 100 Mbps on 4K TVs?
Take a look at your TVs. Even the most expensive high-end devices, like a flagship LG OLED, still only have a 100 Mbps port installed to this day. Why do you think that is? Because even a massive 4K video stream including Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos on Apple TV+ or Netflix only draws around 25 to a maximum of 40 Mbps, thanks to modern compression (which providers are constantly optimizing). If 100 Mbps is easily enough for high-resolution home theater video, why on earth would a tiny audio stream need Gigabit?

The Real-World Stress Test (A 250 Mbps VDSL line handles everything)
I have a completely normal 250 Mbps VDSL connection here (not even fiber), and before activating Roon, I wanted to deliberately push my network to its absolute limit:
On the main TV, a movie was running via Apple TV+ in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. At the exact same time, a 4K video was playing on the laptop, another 4K video on the tablet in the bathroom, and yet another one on the smartphone. The result: Absolutely zero buffering, not a single stutter, everything ran flawlessly at full speed. And my Wi-Fi setup (Fritz!Box 7690 with Wi-Fi 7 and a MacBook with Wi-Fi 6E) was still basically idling through it all.

So, anyone claiming you need Gigabit ports for audio streaming, or that a streamer with a 100 Mbps port is “outdated,” simply does not understand the technology. Don’t let yourself be fooled by marketing hype or forum myths. Anything more than 100 Mbps on a streamer is physically and practically complete nonsense.
