Selecting the type of speakers on the RS520

Hi,
When changing the configuration on the Line out, there a section to configure the type of speakers.
Yet no where in the user manual does it show this feature or what the feature actual does to the sound.

Consider having bookshelf speakers (e.g. Mon Acoustics Supermon Mini s) along w a Rel T/5X where the Rel is also connected to the binding posts and ground.

Where can I find this documentation?

Thx

@Smegel

The Speaker Type setting in the Line Out configuration is designed to slightly adjust the output characteristics based on your speaker setup (e.g., bookshelf, floorstanding, with or without subwoofer). It does not apply DSP (digital signal processing), but modifies the analog output level to better match the selected speaker type.

In your case—with bookshelf speakers (Mon Acoustics Supermon Mini) and a REL T/5X subwoofer connected to the binding posts and ground—we recommend selecting “Bookshelf + Subwoofer” if available.

You’re right that this feature is not currently documented in the RS520 user manual.
We appreciate your feedback and are working to include more detailed explanations in future updates.

Hello! I just buy the RS520 and I like it very much for its sound quality and design. I am using a Korean brand speaker to match with it. The model is Ascilab F6B which is a medium size bookself, but with relatively high demand of driving power for its low sensitivity 84db at 4 ohm.

I wonder I should set RS520 speaker output to “bookshelf” or “floorstanding” (tried “tallboy” but I dun’t like the strong bass effect) because I find at “bookself” setting it may have a little bit “dim” in sound and narrow sound stage. With “floorstanding” setting the sound is more open, dynamic and good for music and TV watching (such as Netflix film). However I don’t know would it lose some details or fineness & smoothness if I choose floorstanding setting for my medium size bookshelf (F6B) from your engineers’ point of view and perspective.

Pls kindly advise. many thanks in advance!!

You can use whichever sounds best to you.

If you are not using a subwoofer then the bookshelf setting is probably the better choice.

If you’re using a sub like the REL which can use the speaker output, then you may want to use one of the other settings.

Per the docs the F6B drops to 46Hz at -6fb.

Thanks for yr prompt reply
