Severe bug after firmware update: Extreme VU meter clipping on Hi-Fi Rose RS151

Dear Hi-Fi Rose Support Team,

Following the installation of the latest firmware update on my Hi-Fi Rose RS151, I encountered a critical issue with the signal level display.

Issue Description:

  • Symptom: Even with a very low input signal, the VU meter display constantly pegs near maximum deflection (clipping). The signal meters are heavily overshooting, rendering the VU display effectively unusable.
  • Concern: I am concerned that this is not merely a visual display bug, but that the digital input signal itself might be incorrectly processed or clipped internally.

Troubleshooting performed so far:

  • Adjusting the audio settings (specifically the source input gain / volume level regulation) had no effect on the VU meter behavior.

Request:

  1. Please investigate promptly whether this is strictly a display scaling bug within the VU meter visualization or if the internal signal processing is actually distorting the audio path.
  2. If this is a known bug introduced in the latest update, please let me know when a hotfix update will be available, or provide instructions on how to roll back to the previous firmware version.

Thank you for the detailed report, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience. We are investigating this behavior, but have not yet been able to reproduce it on our RS151 test unit. Could you please share a few details so we can match your setup?

  • Playback source: Are you using a built-in streaming service, local music files, or an external digital input such as optical or coaxial? Does this happen with all sources/tracks or only particular ones?

  • Audio output: Which output connection and DAC/amplifier are you using? Is software volume control enabled, and what volume level is selected?

  • VU settings: Is “VU Meter Reference” set to Input gain or Output gain? You mentioned adjusting gain/volume settings—could you clarify which settings you changed? Screenshots would be helpful.

  • When it occurs: Does the meter behave this way immediately after restarting, or only after changing sources or settings? Does switching the VU reference between Input gain and Output gain make any difference?

Also, when you mention a “very low input signal”, do you mean quiet passages in the recording, a reduced source-device level, or a low volume setting on the RS151? Have you noticed any audible distortion alongside the meter behavior?
