Sfp-usb 3.0 – rs130/rd160

Hello Rose,

I need your help. I ordered the RD160 but I don’t know which SFP module I can buy for my RS130 that is compatible with the SFP module supplied with the RD160.

I would be very grateful for any help and tips.

Thanks!

@Philsisch

The SFP module we provide is SI0012-X1ATOZ , Copper SFP Transceiver 10/100/1000Mbps Module.
The ports on RS130 are for SFP only.
The maximum throughput of RS130 is 1Gbit/s

We do not sell SFP modules separately.

@ROSEHAN

Can you explain to me why you are talking about the SFP-RJ45 copper module? My question obviously refers to the USB 3.0 SFP connection from the RS130 to the RD160. I don’t understand your answer!

Would these be correct specifications?

• Data Rate: 1.25Gb/s
• Wavelength: Up: TX1310nm/RX1550nm; Down: TX1550nm/RX1310nm
• Reach: up to 20 km; Fiber Type: Single LC single-mode fiber
• Wide Compatibility - for Cisco, Meraki, Ubiquiti, Mikrotik, D-Link, Supermicro, Netgear, TP-Link, Broadcom, Linksys and Other Open Switches.

I recommend the Cisco SFP-10G-LR 10GBASE-LR module with Corning OS2 fiber, I have an incredible result. However, I am waiting for the beginning of next week for the CISCO SFP-10G-AOC2M DAC cable (in 2m) to test, but apparently it must be even better…

I confirm that the Cisco SFP-10G-AOC DAC cable is even better than the Cisco modules previously mentioned. Everything is more relaxed, the impact of the bass is striking, the gain is depth and width of the soundstage has improved again. Hour after hour it gets better and better

Dear PatriceP
Where did you order the Cisco SFP-10G-AOC cable?
Thanks for your answer.
Best wishes for audiophile enjoyment.
Andreas

Hello Andreas,
I bought it on Ebay (Austrian seller), however, I should receive today THE DAC cable: Amphenol SF-SFPP2EPASS-001 that everyone is talking about at the moment, I am looking forward to testing it. I will give you my feedback very soon.

So, here is my feedback for the 2 DAC cables (Cisco and Amphenol), the Amphenol is slightly better in the midrange and the soundstage is just huge, unfortunately, there are small noises (like electrostatic discharges), it’s quite disconcerting, the sound is so incredible…
So I put the Cisco back between RS130 and RSA720 and I connected the Amphenol to the network SFP slot of the RS130, the other end to the SFP port of my Sotm switch.
Wow, it’s the winning combo, everything is there, from the extreme bass to the treble, the voices are amazing, the soundstage is huge, really three-dimensional. My installation has climbed several steps. I will not change these DAC cables anymore, they are fantastic and the investment is only 150€ for both!!!

Same question: I have an RD160 and an RS130.

  1. Connected via USB, everything is OK
  2. Connected via I2S, everything is OK
3 Connected via SFP, the RS130 continuing trying to connect saying "wait need more than one minute, but after hours… no connection at all.

I am wondering if someone has connected the RD160 to the RS130 via SFP Fiber.

If yes, which king of SFP and fiber has been used.
I am using the Finisar FTLF1318P3BTL that is the same used for the Ethernet LAN connection.

On this info ROSE documentation is a disaster !

Glad to hear a feedback from an actual RD160 user !

I have tried the same Finisair SFP modules connecting my RS130 to the USB Hub and… It does not work either BECAUSE I found out you need to use SFP+ modules (eventhough ROSE states that RS130 supports SFP only)… I Guess it is the same for the RD160, but I’m surprised for its Price, the RD160 is not supplied with SFP+ modules, whereas the 400 euros RSA720 IS supplied with a pair of ‘approved by ROSE’ SFP+ modules…

Please look at the ‘RS130 SFP brands’ post : I bought a pair of ELFCAM ES31X-3LCD10 SFP+ modules and a double single mode fiber from Corning and it works SPLENDID.

The FTL1318 is not compatible.
I highly recommend the Cisco DAC cable mentioned above.
You can find some on Ebay for around a hundred Euros.

I have had the RD 160 for a couple of weeks .
Had it hooked up to RS 130 with Tubulous concentous I2s . After reading your comment about the Cisco I ordered it. Received earlier today, swapped them out and Wow! I am so impressed . I can see this type of connection catching on. Anyone want to buy an I2s cable?

hello ,
I am glad that my advice was useful to you.
Personally, I switched to an Amphenol DAC cable between the RS130 and the RD160, after a running-in period of a few days, the result is exceptional, a very analog and warm sound.

Thanks

Guess I’ll be ordering the amphenol then. For the money these cables with this new sfp type of connection really is a revelation. I think it will go through the roof when people catch on to how good it is. I’ll be selling my €700 I2s cable now.

So do you reckon the 1M or the 2M?
Surely shorter one is preferable?

Thanks

Hello,
Personally, I have it in 1m, but on Whatsbestforum, there is unanimity to say that the 2m is preferable (larger soundstage and better overall balance), I hesitate to re-oder the 2m, because I do not want to go through the burning period again, which was at least unpleasant for almost a week.

Hello members from all over the world…

I will be ordering the amphenol sfp connectors but i dont seem to find the cisco cable anywhere…

Questions: 1:
should I change the sfp connectors from my router to the rs130 as well or just the ones between my rs130 to my rsa730 hub?

Question 2:
besides the cisco fiber cable is there a very good one for 2 meters and a 10 meters as well? (Same setup as above)

Question 3: is it true that the sfp+ connectors do NOT work on streamers, hubs and hifi rose in general or have other members can say that sfp+ works just as well?

I love the replies and interactions on this subject with the quality of the members!

To answer your questions:
You will find the Amphenol cable at Mouser.com, prefer the 2m cable
The Cisco AOC cable here on Ebay: NEW Cisco SFP-10G-AOC1M Active Optical Cable assembly 1M NEU Sealed | eBay
it exists in several lengths and it has no influence on the sound, I’m not sure there are any original 10m’s on Ebay right now.
DO NOT get the compatible ones, they are not the same quality and you will be disappointed…
The proof that the SFP+ work since it is the ones above that I use

Hello Patrice,
I’ll be ordering an Amphenol kit. Can’t wait to see what it will do between my rsa730 and my rs130.
Thank you for sharing your tryouts with us. Sfp is the way of the future of hifi which is here now!
