Sound Quality of Rose app vs Qobuz connect

Hey there Gingerbeard and others regarding SQ in May discussions.After going from Qobuz to Qobuz Connect about a month ago, I started comparing the Rose Connect with the new Qobuz Connect app.While playing the same track (I sadly don’t use Roon anymore) on the QBC app,I would A-B between QBC and the Rose connect app and noticed a difference in the openness/air between vocals and instruments. I tried this numerous times with the same result…. Everything just sounded better to me.So due to the fact that I could A-B so quickly while the track was playing, I had people do the double blind numerous times and it was unanimous every time for the Rose! I would love to hear from anyone who has some insight into what seems to be true.The only problem I have is that after finding some new music on Qobuz or elsewhere is to remember to switch over from Qobuz app to Rose home for the SQ boost!!

You are saying that the sound coming from your Rose device is improved when using the Rose Connect app compared to the Qobuz app. I would like to say this shouldn’t happen in hifi, but who knows what happens inside the black box that is the Rose. I am looking forward to the software update to improve basic streaming functionality. I rely on my DACs, amplification and speakers for sound quality.

Yes Eleven,that’s exactly what I have experienced. I too depend on my dac , pre-amp,and amplification for my SQ plus a well treated room. I like as few things as possible to have an effect on the original sound that the artist/mixer intended.All I am doing is playing my music from the source (Qobuz sounds best to my ears) in the resolution they send directly from my rs520 to my speakers and switch back and forth between Qobuz and Rose home and there’s a definite improvement when I do. I also am not using Roon although there UI is definitely superior. I invite anyone to try this out and post their own findings.Thanks,Jay BTW Eleven,what functional problems are you having with your streaming capabilities?

So… if your speaker has a somewhat uneven frequency response (and it does, of course) you prefer not to do anything that would actually bring the sound more in line with the original recording and would rather chase the totally, completely, absolutely nonexistent difference between different streaming services instead?

Typical audiophile, indeed.

I can’t hear any difference between Qobuz on Rose and Qobuz Connect. They all sound equally good.

However, make sure you select the best possible audio quality in the Qobuz app. The app lets you adjust the quality if your internet connection is poor, for example, when you’re on the go. At home, I set the app to the best possible quality when connected to Wi-Fi.

@Jay
When using the Rose Connect app, playback is managed directly by the Rose device, ensuring bit-perfect data transmission and optimized processing for the best stability.

With Qobuz Connect, the audio stream is handled differently through the app, which may affect the presentation. For the highest stability, we always recommend using the Rose Connect app for playback, while Qobuz Connect can still be convenient for discovery and browsing.

I could not agree more @ROSEHAN ! I think a lot of people don’t realize that after finding their music,(I now use Qobuz Connect) they need to remember to make sure to use Rose Home for playback! It’s definitely the purest sound, I just wish there was a way to have that happen automatically after visiting Qobuz or Tidal to pick out my music.Keep up the great work in your products and hopefully someday I can upgrade to your flagship models but for now I love my Rs520!!

Why is the audio stream “handled by the app” at all? The app should be for communicating with the streaming service and have nothing to do with playback quality. If it does, and it sounds like it does, I regret the purchase of this device (RS130). I was just beginning to accept it with all of its (software) warts, but it is becoming quite maddening.

@Eleven

Rosehan was referring to Qobuz Connect when making the comment “ is handled differently through the app”.

The Rose Connect app is redundant when streaming directly to your 130 via QC.

Here are the comments from Qobuz

“ With Qobuz Connect , the control of your paired audio devices remains entirely within the Qobuz app, so listening through your connected amplifier or wireless speakers no longer requires the use of the manufacturer’s app. What’s more, Qobuz Connect ensures Hi-Res music playback at up to 192 kHz/24-bit on your connected equipment.“.

I inferred from his comment that sound quality (presentation) is diminished when using Qobuz Connect vs Rose Connect.

My apologies for misunderstanding your original post.

Frankly, I cannot hear any difference in sound quality via QC v Rose although the Qobuz explanation of how QC works seems to make complete sense to me in terms of “ audio purity”.

Now that Rose have sorted the glitches that were afflicting QC, it is now my preferred listening route primarily because albums / playlists are sorted as I would want them, I can read CD sleeve notes on many of the albums streamed and I can listen to albums and playlists recommended by Qobuz.

Dear HiFi Rose users

To explain simply: When playing the same track through the Rose Connect app and the Qobuz Connect app, both methods send a digital signal, so there is no difference in sound quality.
However, in terms of stability rather than sound quality, we recommend playing Qobuz tracks through the Rose Connect app.

Dear ROSEHAN, I totally agree with your last statement regarding playback.In order to be perfectly clear this is what I am suggesting for users to do their own A-B testing on the same track and resolution:1)Find the highest resolution track you prefer 2)Prepare the track to play on Qobuz Connect app and on the Rose Home app.This way you can switch relatively quickly between the two.Play about 30-40 seconds on each track to compare.Here’s the difference that I hear in my well-treated room:1)Richer,smoother sound 2)More clarity 3)more air between instruments and vocals 4)better depth and width of the sound stage 5) more life-like sound.Also nobody has missed on the A-B test yet. I am not using Roon for my test or listening,although they have a great U/I, I think most people would agree it degrades the sound.Qobuz Connect has come a long way in their metadata department with good information on artists and suggestions for new music. I am looking forward to hearing from people trying this test and their opinions. Thanks,and have a great weekend of music!!

ROSEHAN just said there is no difference in sound quality, just stability. You wrote that you totally agree with then proceed to completely disagree with him.

What do you think that better stability means?

He clearly distinguishes between stability and sound quality.

To me stability means playing the songs in the correct order, not cutting off the beginnings and ends of songs, etc.

You know, no matter how much you try to hide the evidence of your stupidity, if the lawyers decide that it’s worth looking into they will find you.

Better stick to praising how accurate today’s horoscope was in your morning paper, that’s more your level.

As Han, as well as others, mentioned already, stability means playing the track, start to end, with no drop-outs.That’s all there is to it, and apparently there were some problems with Connect implementation in achieving that.

Not that they would bother, but it would be quite interesting to sic Samsung’s lawyers at

this statement as it is both defamatory, damaging, and can be demonstrated to be factually wrong in about 30 minutes.
