Sounds Great...and that's what's most important

Sounds great. . .

After six weeks; so far, so good. I’m only using this as a server/DAC. . . I spent almost four days loading 388 CDs in wav format into a 1 TB Samsung 850 Pro SSD I installed in the unit. The unit froze after I ripped the first compact disc but after a reboot I’ve had no problems of that nature since. The good news is the sound is as good as the CDs sound from a player. The only complaint is the meta data is not shown reliably on Rose Connect. . . about 40 disc show as “unknown”. I thought I could correct that later, but if you don’t edit while ripping, you are; for the moment, out of luck. Hopefully this will be corrected in later updates. (UPDATE: after two software updates to Rose Connect I can now edit the photo, album and artist name.) No issues connecting to Network either through cable or Wi Fi. I love that I can use Rose Connect through my PC instead of trying to deal with a phone app. One other quirk while ripping disc was that every 4 or 5 disc it would revert to the home screen and then do a media search update. . . when you returned to the CD ripping screen it would require you to select the SSD, as if it forgot you only have one SSD inside the unit. This got old in a hurry, but you keep plugging along and eventually I got all the disc ripped to the drive. HiFi Rose seems to be trying to make their customers happy but of course some of these software tweaks require time to achieve. Getting Rose Connect to operate reliably will apparently take a little time but progress is being made. Very good looking display on the unit and easy to read from average viewing distances. All in all I recommend this unit, I had seriously looked at some more expensive competitors and I am happy with my decision to purchase a HiFi Rose RS151.

Hello everyone! Because this is a discussion of shortcomings that will need to be corrected in the Rose One application, I also bring observations and suggestions, but about the iPhone application, not the one on the PC. 1. When I give Likes to songs on the iPhone, it happens that a different number of hearts is displayed on the Rose streamer, different from the one on the iPhone. If I hide (lower) the play screen and return to it, the hearts appear correctly again. 2. When listening to music from local storage (NAS or SSD), it often displays the wrong song or does not show the picture. 3. It often happens that I cannot jump to the song progression bar, I have to resume the melody to let me do this. These would be the most disturbing aspects, which make me believe that syncopes occur in maintaining the permanent connection between the streamer and the iPhone application.

Update: Well after another month of ownership, I decided to take a walk on the wild side and give the early access software a chance…currently running EA 5.12.05 in the RS151, 1.0.39.7 in the PC Rose One and 1.0.48.3 in the android phone Rose One.
The first try to update to 5.12.05 hung half way through…I shut the unit off…waited a few minutes and tried again…updated with no problems on the second try. You have to redo any changes you did to the default settings but I knew that was necessary due to the factory reset that takes place.
I’ve been listening to all my Sade ripped discs from the internal SSD all day and they sound great.
I don’t have any streaming programs installed in the RS151; which may explain why playing music from the SSD works as advertised.
Cover art is still inconsistent on Rose One…sometimes it works; sometimes you get the blank squares but it seems to be working more often than not.

Did I mention how good the music sounds?

Just for general principle I checked the VU meters and they worked in sync with my McIntosh power amp meters…nice, but I’m more concerned with the great sound quality.

This is just my experience submitted for anyone’s review, personally as a matter of principle I never recommend using beta or early access updates, but in my case it seems to working and I’m most happy with the sound.
