Spotify playback resolution

Recently, Spotify upgraded their proposal, offering CD quality playback. Interesting and most welcome, to keep up with the Jones’s and not to lose customers to other hires competitors.

As a Rose RS130 user playing Spotify, I’d like to know why no playback resolution is shown, like it is with e.g. Roon.

My question: is this a Spotify or a Rose thing and is it expected to be resolved shortly (either by Rose or Spotify)?

Aree you sure they’ve actually launched it to the public?

Actually, I’m not. I thought I read it was already out…
Just did a check: no, not yet.
Sorry! In that case, we need to hold our horses before my question can hopefully be answered.

It is already released but not available on Rose (RS520). It requires Spotify app update

Dear HiFi Rose users

Thank you for your message and for sharing your feedback regarding Spotify’s recent CD-quality upgrade.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. Rest assured that our software team will update Rose devices as soon as Spotify provides the necessary support.

Dear HiFi Rose Support Team,

Thank you again for your update 14 days ago regarding the Spotify CD-quality (Lossless/Hi-Res) upgrade.

You mentioned at the time that your software team was ready to proceed but was awaiting the necessary support from Spotify.

I am now reaching out for a follow-up, as many of your competitors have recently implemented and launched full support for this new Spotify functionality on their devices.

Have you now received the technical support required from Spotify?

Could you please provide a new estimated timeline for when proud HiFi Rose users can expect this feature to be fully implemented and launched on Rose devices?

We are very eager to enjoy the full CD-quality streaming experience on our HiFi Rose products.

Thank you for your hard work and anticipated update.

Best regards,

Göran

@Gorsti

Currently, we do not support Spotify as an in-app feature.
Instead, we are developing a new module that will include Spotify support along with other functionalities such as TIDAL Connect.
This module is planned to be released and available for purchase next year.

Dear HiFi Rose team,

I own the RS130, which I enjoy very much — it’s a truly impressive transport in both design and performance.

However, I would like to express my concern regarding Spotify Lossless support. Many other brands such as KEF (LS Wireless II), Yamaha, WiiM, and Bluesound already support Spotify Connect with Lossless streaming, while the RS130 currently does not.

From your recent statement, I understand that you are developing a new module that will include Spotify support together with other features. I would like to clarify that I already have full Spotify Connect functionality today, and I am not interested in purchasing an additional module just to enable Lossless — especially since competing devices already provide this natively.

Could you please confirm:

  1. Whether Spotify Lossless via Connect will be enabled on existing RS130 units through a future firmware update, and
  2. If so, when this update is expected to be released?
I appreciate your work on improving the Rose ecosystem and look forward to your reply.

Rosehan,

Am I correct to draw two conclusions from the above? One, that the entire current HiFi Rose product line can’t and won’t support lossless playback from Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect and two, the only way for HiFi Rose users to obtain these software products will be for them to buy another box? Can I assume that this box will be supplied at no cost to existing owners or at least direct from the factory at factory cost?

How long has HiFi Rose known this?

And here we are again—18 days later—and HiFi Rose continues the same cycle: apologize, deflect, stall, and hope users forget.

It’s obvious there is no genuine intent to implement Spotify Lossless natively on any HiFi Rose product. Doing so would require a fundamental rewrite of the operating system—something HiFi Rose clearly cannot or will not undertake. To this day, there has been no technical explanation as to why this is impossible, despite the fact that the current hardware is more than capable.

Instead, customers are told to rely on external dongles to achieve what the built-in software should already deliver.

Once again, HiFi Rose fails to provide transparent communication or a definitive timeline for Spotify integration. Mark my words: six months from now, users will still be asking for the same update. Just look at the countless other open promises and unresolved threads—this has become the standard pattern, not the exception.

Sigh. It wouldn’t. Existing OS is perfectly capable of doing Spotify Lossless, Tidal Connect, and what not. That Rose can’t or won’t do that is another issue.

@BorisM I completely agree—the current operating system appears more than capable. I have tried to give HiFi Rose the benefit of the doubt that there may be a legitimate technical explanation for why a straightforward “plug-and-play” implementation, similar to that offered by many competitors now supporting Spotify Lossless, Tidal Connect, and Qobuz Connect, has not yet been achieved.

That said, this situation appears consistent with a broader pattern that many users have observed over time—apologies, delays, and limited transparency regarding timelines or next steps. As a result, confidence in HiFi Rose’s communication practices continues to erode among long-time customers.

Should HiFi Rose eventually introduce another external accessory to address this limitation, it would be reasonable for users to expect that the company clearly articulate how it improves functionality and how potential issues will be managed—particularly given the concerns previously reported with the RSA720.

Since this forum represents the primary venue for customer engagement, it is essential that HiFi Rose address both positive and critical feedback in a direct and transparent manner. The ongoing absence of clear communication and resolution on key topics has contributed to growing frustration within the community, which could be mitigated through timely, detailed updates from the company.

Spotify Lossless Audio

From 5:56 to 6:12 min. onwards, it’s very interesting, but most people here already know that. So, actually, nothing new.

I’m interested and will continue to follow how HiFi Rose integrates Spotify Lossless.

 The video isn’t too technical

PS:

Spotify Lossless plays perfectly on my Lyngdorf speakers, without any additional hardware, which Rose has announced for next year.

In other words:

A small box for Spotify, Qobuz, and Tidal.

I think it was also on display at the HiFi Rose booth at the last High End show in Munich.

Correct me if I’m wrong!

At some point it just becomes another empty excuse. And we already have too many clueless people already going “waaah, my phone has a newer Android version, Rose should drop everything and update to new Android, waaah” when it is the least of the problems. We should keep to what is actually accurate. Technically, RoseOS itself has good enough Android to support e.g. Spotify. But Spotify does set certain requirements in order to use their full eSDK, one of which is that devices receive regular firmware updates and never use Spotify SDK older than 6 months. Now that might be a problem for Rose’s software department (both people in it  )

Of course if Rose’s plan is to try to sell us another dongle with limited support and functionality just to use Spotify Lossless… good luck to them. If I had any interest in Spotify, I’d just get Wiim Ultra and connect it to Rose with a digital output. Or skip the Rose altogether.

Dear HiFi rose users

We’re sorry, but at this time, we do not have any specific plans to add Spotify Lossless via Connect support for the RS130.
While we do have internal discussions about potential future development, it is currently not an easy feature to implement.

We truly wish we could accommodate all user requests, but unfortunately, it is not always possible to do so.

Apologize, deflect, ignore hope users forget, rinse and repeat. I don’t recall a single user requested feature that has been added. Not one. But I do recall many user requested fixes that also have yet to be implemented.

There is a reason Rose is not implementing Spotify Lossless. Just as there is a reason they won’t pass multi-channel audio through the HDMI port even though the manual says it should. They will never give you the reason most likely because it is an expense item (like a licensing fee), or they are saving these updates for a new product in development or because it would serve only to expose their own incompetence in advancing meaningful updates to expensive products. Instead they spend their time on album artwork or cataloging our music database for God knows what reason.

Rather they say it is not something they have specific plans to develop for an existing product or that it is too difficult to do so. Please.

The company and @ROSEHAN should be ashamed for turning this functionality into a commercially profitable solution. No other company would come up with a plan like this, they ALL just implement. I sincerely hope this disgraceful attitude will become known among future users and become an argument not to buy.

Rosehan,

Can you confirm that the RW 800 shown at the Berlin Audio Show is what you were alluding to in the above message?

Does the projected price for the module remain at approximately 200 euro?

Dear HiFi Rose users

We understand your concerns about feature development and requested updates. In practice, not every request can be implemented immediately, as many functions depend on both software and hardware compatibility, licensing requirements, and overall system stability.

That said, we continuously review user feedback and do our best to add new features or improvements when they are technically and commercially feasible. Each addition requires careful consideration to ensure that existing functions remain reliable and that performance standards are maintained across all Rose devices.

Your feedback is valuable to us, and it helps us prioritize what users find most important. Please rest assured that our team remains committed to improving the Rose experience through consistent firmware and app updates.
