Start of some tracks stop for a second and then continue

@ROSEHAN Reported this back in June 2023 as part of another thread but got no acknowledgement hence posting again as this intermittent playback problem is becoming very frustrating.

Played the same ‘Playlist’ which consists of all songs stored on the internal SSD on the RS150B and for no reason the start of the track will pause and then restart after a second or so within the first 10 seconds.

To illustrate the problem I have recorded the same playlist on my iPhone looking at my RS150B front panel screen - movies were downsampled to 540-lines to reduce file sizes.

Take 1 is the first time and Take 2 is the second time. Tracks below with a time against them indicates where the played stopped and there was no music for a second or so. If it is going to happen it is always in the first 10 seconds of the start of the track.

Sometimes tracks pause and on another occasion the same track will also play without problem.

If I generate a similar playlist on TiDAL - all plays OK.

This is happening on a number of playlists I have, or song queues where I am utilising the internal SSD. (SSD is a Samsung Evo 850 1TB hard drive)

What are your comments on this and is there a fix?

@Woorlord

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
We’ve tested that source, and it doesn’t show the same symptoms as you.

I have a few questions for you.

  1. What devices are you using with the RS150b connected, and how are the In/Out settings set?
  2. Can you mail me some of the songs you marked? (In The Summertime and a few more songs if possible)
    eunseong96@citech.kr

Thank you

Thank you for your confirmation @ROSEHAN

  1. I am using Unbalanced RCA output only. The output level is fixed and preset to ‘6500mV (Unbalanced 2200mV)’

  2. I have emailed you a link to download a folder ‘SummertimePlaylist’ via ‘OneDrive’ of this complete playlist (13 tracks numbered as per list above)

@Woorlord

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

We tested it under the same conditions as you. Your Rose device may need repair.
The phenomenon that there is no sound after being paused appears as if the DAC is separated from the Rose device and does not come out.

Please check one more thing.
If you have an external USB DAC (connected via USB), does the same happen if you connect it?
If it is impossible to check because there is no external USB DAC or the same symptoms do not appear, contact the distributor in the country where you purchased the Rose device and request a repair. It appears to be a problem that requires replacement of the audio board.

Thank you

@ROSEHAN I have connected my Cambridge Audio DACMagic200 via USB to the Rose RS150B and playback is flawless with absolutely no pauses or breaks in the track introductions. I used the same test playlist as documented above.

I went back to the DAC of the Rose RS150B output via RCA and the fault returned immediately on track #1 and track #3. As you indicate there is obviously a problem on the internal audio board. I will contact my local supplier of the RS150B for return and repair.

I borrowed another RS150B from my local HiFi shop in exchange for mine whilst going back for repair and low and behold exhibits the exact same problem. However, after five hours of investigation into the late hours of the night I must confess that this is my fault and I hold my hands up to this.

I had plugged in a HDMI cable from my AV receiver (AVR) into the RS150B outlet. This was connected through my AVR to my LG OLED screen using HDMI(arc) signal. I had read previously not to use a HDMI(arc) signal in this RS150B output. Removing this connection and playback is now flawless without any random interruption.

I have now moved my RS150B audio channel to an audio only channel on my AVR.

Playing videos on the RS150B is not for me so am happy to just drop this connection - if needed then I could run a separate cable from the RS150B to a free HDMI input on the LG screen bypassing the AVR and HDMI(arc) connections all together.

I got my original RS150B back from my HiFi shop before it got sent back for investigation / repair which obviously it did not need.

My sincere apologies to @ROSEHAN & ROSE Audio on this and I fully acknowledge this was down to user error.
