The internal hard drive takes a very long time to load when the computer starts up

I’ve been using my RS151 for a few months now and really enjoy it, but there’s one thing that bugs me: when I shut down the device completely (not just put it to sleep), the internal hard drive doesn’t appear until at least 5 or 6 minutes after I restart it.

I had already reported this issue, but at the time I thought it was my hard drive because I tried another empty one and it was recognized immediately.

With the recovery feature, I’m sure the drive appears once all the files have been scanned!

This is a major issue because I have about 10,000 files, and it took 5 or 6 minutes for the drive to appear—how long would those with 2 or 3 TB have to wait? 30 minutes? An hour?

The drive should appear immediately; file indexing should happen in the background.

Please fix this very annoying problem.

We are also continuously working on improving the DB scan speed issue.

With the current system structure, whenever a new album is added, the entire database must be rescanned in order for additions/deletions and other changes to be reflected in the media library.

Although rescanning takes slightly less time than the initial database scan, the entire database still needs to be searched again, which results in a long delay before newly added information is reflected.

Hello @ROSEHAN,

Thank you for your feedback.

I’m not talking about indexing one or more newly added albums, but about indexing when the device is fully booted up, not when it comes out of standby.

I don’t mind that scanning the folders takes time, but why not display the internal drive? Because during that time, the drive isn’t visible and you can’t access it.
This is the third streamer I’ve had with a built-in hard drive, and I’ve never had this issue with the other two.

I reckon the drive appears after 5 or 6 minutes for 10,000 files – what would it be like if I had 100,000 files? An hour before the drive appears?

Thank you.

@Razmote

All Rose devices use the same software and server structure, so it would not normally make sense for only one specific Rose product to behave differently from the others.

Could you please help us confirm a few things?

  1. When your RS151 is powered on from a completely powered-off state, does the internal drive always fail to appear initially?
  2. Does your SSD always appear only after approximately 5 to 6 minutes?
  3. If you have another SSD available, does the same issue occur when inserting a different SSD into the RS151?

@ROSEHAN

  1. No, when I switch it on from a completely powered-off state, it doesn’t appear.
  2. After 5 or 6 minutes, yes, it appears.
  3. I tested it with another empty SSD and it appeared straight away

I remain convinced that this is linked to the scan of the files on the drive; otherwise, I can’t see why it would appear 6 minutes later.

If I put this same drive into my two PCs, it appears instantly.

Thank you for your help.

I can confirm this problem. I own two RS 151’s and when they are powered off - unplugged for protection during a lightning storm - and then plugged back in, the IOS app doesn’t initially ‘see’ them. I can’t quote a time, and sometimes they appear at separate times, but it does take substantial time.

I have tried to rescan the code to the machine to install them and that doesn’t work since they are already in your database.

It’s frustrating and I’ve come to accept this as a shortcoming but it’s a real problem.

@Razmote

Once the SSD has been scanned on the RS151, it will not be rescanned unless new audio files have been added.

We would like you to format the SSD in question and check whether it is recognized immediately when connected to the RS151 afterward.

From our internal testing, the SSD is recognized immediately regardless of how many audio files are stored on it.
