Thin sound with floorstand speaker type

Hallo,
Comparing the sound with other amplifiers that i’ ve (Naim, Audio Analogue, Cayin, Arcam, Onyx) my Spendor A7 have a thin and less dynamic sound. Setting floorstand speaker type improves the situation but not yet as the other ampli. It could be possibile to create a curve with more dynamic and fuller sound with bass more deep and articulated?

Thank you

Ps on the paper they have less than half watt of the Hifi Rose but it seems the opposite…

@Ger0nim0

Please help us confirm a few things:

  1. Could you let us know which Rose device model you are currently using?
  2. We understand that sound perception can vary from person to person.
    Higher output does not necessarily mean more dynamic sound or deeper, tighter bass, nor does it guarantee that such a sound curve can be created.

RS520. For sure it will be desirable a more dynamic, deeper and fuller sound in the next fw (if applicable). Mostly at low volume where the sound is flat.

Perhaps it is the difference between digital and analog amplification going to the speakers.
There is Class A, AB, B, C, D in several variations in the circuit

It’s not. However the power amplifier in 520 may show more load dependency than something state of the art, and if speakers’ impedance drops enough at some frequencies there might be issues.

Which speakers are being used here?

Also, this is something that can likely be fixed with PEQ (thankfully 520 has it) but you need to take some measurements…

@Ger0nim0

Thank you for your feedback.

What you are experiencing at low volume is not necessarily related to output power, but can be influenced by speaker characteristics (impedance/sensitivity), system matching, and listening conditions.

A few suggestions:

  • The Spendor A7 may react differently depending on amplifier matching, especially in certain frequency ranges.
  • At low volume, bass and dynamics can feel reduced due to normal hearing characteristics.
  • We recommend trying the PEQ feature on the RS520 to slightly boost low frequencies and improve overall balance.

We will also share your feedback with our team for consideration in future firmware updates.

SPENDOR A7 are a quite easy speakers to drive (88db 8 ohms min 6). Equalizer are not the way to go for (it seems to me a digital equilizer) and I don’t like the sound. Digital filters help but not so much. I think that working on the curve will be the best way to improve it.

My chain is
1: ROSE 520 Amplifier, Speakers
2: ROSE 520 Cinch PreOut, Analog PreIn Amplifier, Analog Equalizer, Analog Power Amplifier

With this a can drive 3 different Speakers and compare sound easily

Ben,

You can’t.

There is an issue of synergy between speakers and the amp. Then the issue of what’s in your chain. You change the chain, you’re going to change the sound. (YMMV depending on gear)
This assumes that you keep the room the same and that you’re placing the speakers in the same spot as to not change the room interactions which also impacts the sound…

This also doesn’t address the OP’s initial problem where he says the RS520 sounds thin with his speakers while other amps don’t sound thin.
