Upgrade path for RS250 and RS520

Hi,
Starting this as a new thread…

On the RS250 and RS520 the wi-fi and BT are coming from a USB-A dongle.

The newer models now come with better BT and wi-fi built into the unit.

The one advantage of the dongle, is that you can replace the dongle w a newer model and a newer set of drivers. So that to get wi-fi 6 for example, you can find a wi-fi 6 dongle and a BT dongle as separates and then offer BT 5.4. This would mean upgrading the OS and loading the specific drivers.

The key issue is finding a supplier and the drivers then testing it out w the Android OS.

This would be a feature in that you could easily offer better wifi connections along w lossless BT codecs for a minimal effort. Sell w new units as well as offer an upgrade to existing owners.

The RS250 is a model with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, while the RS520 requires a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth dongle.
Additionally, please note that Rose devices are not compatible with all dongles. Only the dongles that we have tested and verified can be used.

Hi @ROSEHAN
I understand that the only upgrade path would be another dongle.

I also understand that you would have to test the dongle.

My point was that you (Rose HiFi) could find another set of dongles, and their device drivers which will have to be loaded as part of the Android OS which powers the unit.

My suggestion is to find separate dongle devices and drivers that you could load into the OS.
The reason I recommend separates is that you would have a wider selection of options. This would allow someone who is running an actual ethernet connection to just plug in a BT only dongle.

Now if you can find a combo dongle that offers wi-fi and BT 5.4 then that too would be a good option.

Based on the issues being raised… I think fixing the bugs in the latest release should take precedence.

Thx,
Mike

At present, however, Rose devices only officially support the bundled dongle and drivers.
Supporting third-party dongles is not possible without OS-level modifications and extensive validation. Nevertheless, we will share your valuable suggestion with our development team for review in future updates or product planning.
