Does anybody use the uppsampling feature on RS 130 and if so does it improve sound quality?
Do you mean RD160 DAC? I don’t believe there is an upsampling feature on the RS130
Check page 42 in the manual of RS130, PCM resampling? I might be wrong
Well I learn something every day….Thanks I’ll take a look
Hi Gorsti,
Which output are you using on the 130. Certain outputs are limited to the frequency they will carry.
Which DAC are you using ?
Hi Bustahip!
I´m currently using a Michi X3 as a dad for my RS 130 and I´m using USB. But I’m also in this moment testing the RD 160
lol , I’m using the 130, rd160 playing through my Michi X3.
I use the SFP USB 3.0 fibre connection between the 130 & 160, this connection allows for the highest frequency output for all formats. From the 160 to the X3 I use the XLR output. I find the PCM sampling on the 160 to be best for my taste. All very subjective, experiment with different settings and find what’s best for you.
Good luck, great taste in amps.
lol really, I just bought the RS 130 and I have a switch and a SFPethernet in, now I play via the rd160 and coax into the unbalanced inputs. I think that the X3:s DAC is really good but…it can always be better, which speakers do you use? I have Kef Blade Two and it sounds fantastic.
I must decide if I will go for the RD 160 this week. Do you got the Rose kit for the connection between the RS130 and the 160?
I bought the 130 and 160 for the connectivity, I wanted to use the usb 3.0 fibre and the is connection, which I have not tried yet.
The Michi uses a sabre DAC chip, which although good, in my opinion cannot beat the AKM chips in the 160.
For its price point the 160 is a very impressive piece of kit when paired with the 130
I have recently stopped using the unbalanced rca output with my Nordost blue heaven cable. I now use a pair of TCI Cobra 2 SE xIr cables.
The improvement using the balanced Is worth the change.
I use B&W 702 S3 Signature speakers. Very happy with the way the whole system sounds.
I wanted to use the usb 3.0 fibre and the I2S connection, which I have not tried yet.
Ok my Michi is a series 1 so I have the AKM DAC, I need to take a decision about the 160, it is a fair amount of money,
Yep it is a lot of money, but totally worth it in my opinion.
Good luck Gorsti, I’d be interested whether you decide to go for the 160 or another DAC. Happy listening .
If you have the 130 and want to get the 160, SFP connection is the only way to go (IMHO). I tested i2S via an obscenely priced HDMI cable (left by my dealer to test) and it was no competition. SFP won. Then I purchased a second SFP cable. There are 2 basic types based on my knowledge. SFP+ Active cable which uses optical fiber and SFP DAC (Direct Attach Copper). Both are way ahead of the i2S and the price is literally 100 times cheaper. A basic cable 1m will cost around $25. Wanted to prefer the copper version but the fiber optic seems slightly better.
Hi! I will probably go for the RD 160, is it wise to go for HIFI Rose SFP kit? You need the contacts and a cable , don´t you? I’m currently testing at home now and it is a fantastic DAC .
You don’t need to go with the HiFi rose or any other specific brand. These cables have been around for years for network use. You can go with a big name network brand or not. I don’t think there will be much difference. Amphenol is recommended brand for the DAC. For fiber, pick your preferred option.

I found that the fiber cables were better than copper. But that’s subjective…
Hi! How do you set the volume to the Michi? do you use variable or the firm one, if you use the firm one which one is to recommend ?
Hi Khaodow,
Many thanks for the info regarding the i2s connection between the 130 and 160. I am already using the sfp usb 3.0 fibre connection, this will safe me a lot of time and money testing the i2s connection.
Thank you.
Hi Gorsti,
I use the pre out setting on the 160, I use the balanced output set to 4v. This bypasses the 160 volume control and allows me to control the volume through the Michi. I also use the Amphenol sfp cable for the connection between the 160 and 130, very happy with the cable, also very cheap. The cable is available through Mouser Electronics - SF-SFPP2EPASS-001
Amphenol Ethernet Cables / Networking Cables. The cable cost £35 including postage.
Thanks so much! I must decide on how I will continue latest Monday :-), Mouser is available in Sweden as well :-), I will let you know how I decide
You’re very welcome, let me know how it goes.
