USB fiber connection bug between RS130 and RD160

@ROSEHAN
Let me explain, the connection works, but when I start the RD160, then when the RD160 is operational, the RS130.
I have music, everything is fine, except that the RD160 is recognized on the RS130 as a USB and not USB Fiber device. This might not be annoying in itself, but, because there is a but, the sound is not the same, at ALL…
When I redo the USB fiber connection, I have an incredibly sound, which has continued to improve since I have the RD160, if the RD160 is only recognized as USB it is not as good (loss of bass, smaller soundstage, less depth).
I thought I read that with the last update, this bug had been resolved… well no.
Could you check this for the next update?

@PatriceP

I just received my Rd160, I only had USB SFP connection between RS130 and RD160. Once I selected SFP input on RD160, RS130 would connected to its USB SFP output automatically. Therefore, everything was fine.

Then, I forced my RS130 to select as USB out, the music still played, but not ad good as USB SFP output.

You are 100% correct.

Thank you for noticing the same fault.
My problem is that I only have fiber and the RS130 always starts on USB and not USB Fiber.
I always have to manually change the ouput type. This bug is annoying…

I only have fiber connection as well. RS130 connects to the fiber connection automatically. I have to manually select USB in order to switch from fiber to USB.

Hi, what SFP module did you use for 130 and 160? Also, is it sigle- or multi-mode? Thanks.

Based on my limited experience, SFP+ Finisar FTLX1475D3BTL and Corning OS2 cable (single mode) provide best sound for my system.

What is the length of the cable you used?

I use 10 ft. However, I don’t think that the length makes difference in this case.

Hi @ROSEHAN

I confirm that the SFP connection on my RS130 to RD160 sometimes switches to USB by itself after powering up, same as @PatriceP earlier reported.

I am using HiFi Rose’s official SFP modules and fiber cable that I purchased separately.

Please help address the bug to your software team so that it can be fixed in next update. Thank you very much.

Thanks for noticing this bug as well.
Did you notice the difference in SQ when switching back to USB Fiber? It’s surprising, considering that we didn’t change anything to the cables.
This problem should be easily fixed by an update, let’s hope so…

I don’t know @PatriceP

I mainly use I2S.

But since I read the issue you reported so I checked to see if that also happens in my setup.

And yes, it does.

When it happens, I just change it back to USB Fibre. I didn’t listen if SQ is degraded with the wrong USB.

I’ll do that next time and report back.

Hi @PatriceP ,
Just checked. SQ does drop with the wrong USB.

BTW, does the Active Standby function work on yours ?

@TomT ,
Active Standby doesn’t work either.
I don’t really mind, because I always turn it off with the remote.

I do the same and turn off the DAC after use. But as long as the bug is found, it should be fixed, shouldn’t it?

Hi @PatriceP @ROSEHAN

Here’s what I do to keep the USB fiber connection between my RS130 and RD160 maintained without erroneously linking to USB after system turning on from standby.

Turning ON (from standby)

  1. Turn on RD160 first.
  2. Until RD160 completely turned on, I then turn on RS130.

Turning OFF (to standby)

  1. Turn off RD160 first.
  2. Until RD160 completely turned off, I then turn off the RS130.

In the past week, via above ON/OFF sequences, the USB fiber connection between my RS130 and RD160 are properly linked to each other without error after system turning on from standby.

Hope above helps

Hi TomT,
Do you turn off the RS130 completely or just put it on standby?

I meant standby, of course.

@PatriceP @ROSEHAN
Sad to report that the USB misconnection bug appears again after running properly for a couple of weeks.
Everything remains the same. The bug just appeared again yesterday.
Not a big issue but a bug is a bug.
Hope that can be solved in next update.

I’m using your method and so far it seems to be working.

Have you tried disconnecting the SFP on the RS130 side and reconnecting it? For me it worked after a few reboots without errors…

Good and let’s keep on testing.
