USB fiber connection bug between RS130 and RD160

Hi @ROSEHAN

I confirm that the SFP connection on my RS130 to RD160 sometimes switches to USB by itself after powering up, same as @PatriceP earlier reported.

I am using HiFi Rose’s official SFP modules and fiber cable that I purchased separately.

Please help address the bug to your software team so that it can be fixed in next update. Thank you very much.

Thanks for noticing this bug as well.
Did you notice the difference in SQ when switching back to USB Fiber? It’s surprising, considering that we didn’t change anything to the cables.
This problem should be easily fixed by an update, let’s hope so…

I don’t know @PatriceP

I mainly use I2S.

But since I read the issue you reported so I checked to see if that also happens in my setup.

And yes, it does.

When it happens, I just change it back to USB Fibre. I didn’t listen if SQ is degraded with the wrong USB.

I’ll do that next time and report back.

Hi @PatriceP ,
Just checked. SQ does drop with the wrong USB.

BTW, does the Active Standby function work on yours ?

@TomT ,
Active Standby doesn’t work either.
I don’t really mind, because I always turn it off with the remote.

I do the same and turn off the DAC after use. But as long as the bug is found, it should be fixed, shouldn’t it?

Hi @PatriceP @ROSEHAN

Here’s what I do to keep the USB fiber connection between my RS130 and RD160 maintained without erroneously linking to USB after system turning on from standby.

Turning ON (from standby)

  1. Turn on RD160 first.
  2. Until RD160 completely turned on, I then turn on RS130.

Turning OFF (to standby)

  1. Turn off RD160 first.
  2. Until RD160 completely turned off, I then turn off the RS130.

In the past week, via above ON/OFF sequences, the USB fiber connection between my RS130 and RD160 are properly linked to each other without error after system turning on from standby.

Hope above helps

Hi TomT,
Do you turn off the RS130 completely or just put it on standby?

I meant standby, of course.

@PatriceP @ROSEHAN
Sad to report that the USB misconnection bug appears again after running properly for a couple of weeks.
Everything remains the same. The bug just appeared again yesterday.
Not a big issue but a bug is a bug.
Hope that can be solved in next update.

I’m using your method and so far it seems to be working.

Have you tried disconnecting the SFP on the RS130 side and reconnecting it? For me it worked after a few reboots without errors…

Good and let’s keep on testing.

Hi @TomT , can you tell me more about the sound of the RD 160? No one talks about a device that costs more than 6000 euros

@VIK

5,299 €

This is a rather brief test, but I confirm that this DAC is incredible, endless details, without the inconveniences of hearing tiredness. The sound is truly analog.
Contrary to what is written in the test, you can completely turn off the screen (maybe the tester didn’t have the right firmware version).
The RS130 - RD160 combo is certainly expensive, but damn, it sounds good… No regrets for the hardware, hoping that the software team will start by stabilizing the software before adding other functions that we don’t really care about…

Advantages
Absolutely natural, thrilling and dynamic sound
Wide selection of digital connections
Outstanding workmanship

Disadvantages
Clear cracking noise when switched on
Display cannot be switched off completely

Do you also hear the cracking noise when switched on?

I have no cracking, neither when turning on nor when turning off.
You can choose to turn off the screen completely from the menu, in the screen save submenu

I use a ground box for all my devices, maybe that’s why I don’t have any cracking…
