I have the small Rose CD player but I own some SACD discs so I wanted to ask can I use my MCD600 as the source to rip SACDs from?
No, you can’t.
You need a SACD player, which firmware can “hacked” and iso2dsd can used. It’s your part to find out, which player are usable for this…
Thank you for the information, while my Rose RS 150B along with my RSA780 work great for the vast majority of my CD collection I wanted to rip the SACDs I own as well. While I don’t know if a firmware update could harm my SACD player I’ll hold off for now. Again, many thanks for the information and the time to reply.
There are only very few SACD or BD drives for which there even exists any hacky firmware to do SACD ripping (none of them from McIntosh), and the process is quite complicated and involved.
If it’s only a few disks, would be significantly easier to just buy hi-rez downloads.
Hello. I ripped a bunch (almost 200) SACD but you need a special setup to do it. First a Sony Bluray SACD player that can be hacked (in my case a Sony BDP S5100) then a Windows machine and ripping software. There tons of tutorials in YouTube. It will be a little bit of time consuming, as a project, but it is worthwhile. After ripping all my sacd, I sold my McIntosh player and kept a Magnetar just for the multichannel feature.
Thank you for your question.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to rip SACD discs using the McIntosh MCD600 (or any standard SACD player) as a source with the Rose CD player.
SACD (Super Audio CD) discs use a proprietary encryption and copy-protection system, which prevents digital extraction of the DSD layer through standard digital or USB outputs.
The Rose CD player can only rip regular audio CDs (Red Book CD format).
SACDs can be played using compatible players like your MCD600, but the DSD audio data cannot be copied or ripped due to copyright protection.
